Using a UA GPU on SQ?

What is the probability of using a SWU on a Singapore Airlines flight from Singapore to London? Website says no - agent says 24 hours.

I am UA Global... The upgrade is a UA SWU.

Thoughts appreciated.

Agent is an idiot, SWUs are not valid for travel operated by SIA.

A UA SWU? I'd say approximately zero chance, maybe lower.

So you are saying I have a chance!

SWU is now called GPU, global premier upgrade. Your chance to use your GPU with Singapore Airlines is zero.

lol

It simply is not possible. Period. You might as well try buying your ticket with Monopoly money.

Or UA miles, which will get you exactly as far (i.e., nowhere). Except in extremely rare cases (i.e., mistakes), SQ does not allow its longhaul flights to be upgraded with any partner currency.

Only Lufthansa and ANA flights may be upgraded with a United GPU-SWU, and they require the purchase of specific fare classes. Here are the terms and conditions of United GPUs.

Thanks all!

Look forward to my ride on Singapore Air.

Are you saying SQ doesn't do *A miles upgrades on full fare tickets?

For longhaul flights? That's exactly what I'm saying.

From the United *A Upgrade Award page:

Code:

* Star Alliance Upgrade Award availability is dependent on each carrier's upgrade availability.
  * Upgrades are not guaranteed and may not be available on all flights.
    * Not eligible on
      * SAS – intra-Scandinavian flights and flights to and from Finland
      * ANA – intra-Japan flights and flights operated by Air Japan
      * Singapore Airlines – all A350, A380 and 777-300ER aircraft flights
      * SWISS – D class (no longer eligible)
  * Upgrades on Copa Airlines must be requested as MileagePlus Upgrade Awards

that is not true at all. They do not allow with UNITED 'currency', but they most certainly allow with other airlines where they have a better relationship, e.g. Lufthansa. You can even use LH eGPUs for SQ!

Thanks for the correction -- I didn't realize that. It looks like Miles & More -- in all its various incarnations -- may be the only partner that can be used for SQ awards, and A380 suites may still be excluded. I presume LH group was able to meet SQ's price demands. :)

either demands or SQ wanted reciprocal assess to LH inventory ... works both ways. Not sure if LH is the only partner but with transfer options to LH (e.g. *W) it is something that is doable.
