Would UA ever do a IAH-MVD flight? The only service at present by a U.S. airline is a seasonal flight from American out of MIA.

In terms of pure fundamentals, MVD could probably support a flight to IAH. It's a growing economy, in many ways healthier than Argentina, and increasing in regional importance. It's also on the rise as a tourist destination.
The problem is that it's still a very long haul, and a double-redeye is not good for utilization. It's likely too far for the 321XLR, even though it's almost entirely over land and doesn't require an ETOPS routing.

For years MVD was a tag from the GRU or (most often) the EZE flight on UA and AA.
Much more likely with the extended on-ground time in EZE to just run over (it's such a quick flight) and park the plane in MVD for the afternoon...but as stated upthread--if AA can't make a go of it UA certainly won't be able to.

Um, no.
It's too small a country and too far away for US airlines to care about it. I'm somewhat surprised AA still flies there when they've abandoned Bolivia and Paraguay entirely, but maybe Uruguay's relative wealth makes it worth keeping in the network. I don't know.
The only way I see UA starting service from IAH is if Uruguay makes a huge offshore oil discovery.

I will say that on the bright side, UA Polaris fares to GRU have been shockingly attractive for a while now. (Haven’t checked in the last month or so, but all year they have been in the sub $3k range for me from LAX). And getting a separate LatAm ticket to MVD has been pretty easy to get cheap or use DL miles if you have them.
GRU is an intimidating airport for many. But if you know it, it is a breeze for this type of connection.
