What you do is once you exit the plane there will be signs saying like "arrivals" and "transfer." Follow the signs that say "transfer." To transfer it will take all of like 1 minute because usually there's no line there. I think you'll be able to get your onward ticket at either a transfer desk (there are many) or at the gate. You might be able to have them print your return ticket in SFO since it's within 24 hours of departure.
Enjoy your short stay in ICN!

Is there a place where the final 747 routes and end dates are posted? Trying to sneak in one more trip the last weekend of this month, I know time is running out quick.

Thanks to FINDARK above, I realize that I wasn't searching for those fares.
However, I was lucky enough to find reasonable biz fares for late October and executed the fare tonight.
Very POSH...Port Out - Starboard Home, for my selected dates.
Got lucky I think. Really hoping they don't sub in a 787 at the last second.
Very fond memories of the 747 on a few different carriers, but UA took me SFO-SYD in first (3K) and SFO-FRA (2K) a number of times. Was never a fan of row 1.
Was lucky enough to have the best seat ever on my Dad's retirement flight from Air Canada in 1996...(pre 9-11) jump seat on CDG-YYZ as he skippered an AC 747-400 on that flight. Hard to beat that but I'll be happy as self-loading-cargo on a late model UA747 flight.

Yes, I did it. Before you get to the escalators to go down, there should be a transfer area where you go up to the boarding gates. You should have plenty of time to go the Asiana lounge and take a shower, so you will feel refreshed for your return.

It was quite efficient and no worse than any airport that I've encountered in the past. IIRC it took about 20-30 minutes to clear security and immigration and not even that long to get outside security.

@warrenw - If we wanted to clear customs and go back through security, how much time would you allow? I'm APEC, for what it's worth.
Thanks,
Greg
Thanks,
Greg
Going back in, it's almost instant to get your ticket if you are 1K/Polaris, and then about 10 minutes for security/immigration (limp to the desk when you get your ticket, then ask for a "security fast pass" because your leg hurts or whatever then it's even faster. Then it's a solid 15-20 minutes to get to your gate at the satellite terminal.
Note: the immigration officer will definitely make a comment if you do this within a span of say, 2 hours. "Why did you leave??" something like that. For a multi-hour layover they don't care.

Thanks for posting ^
Guess I should be happy that Biz and FC are already sold out so I won't be tempted to fly this
Though I've flown 747 in coach much further in the past
Interesting that they won't be selling ticket for UD:
Mahalo, 747 United Airlines Announces Final Boeing 747 Flight
"Friend Ship" Will Recreate the Journey of the First United 747 Flight from 1970
United's final international 747 flight from Seoul to San Francisco departs October 29
And for those of you who snagged ticket for last Int'l flight, looks like that is still holding ^
And what a way to post your 4,000th post
