Chicago-style deep dish pizza tops a list of delicious new offerings on board July 1
Colorado-based New Belgium Voodoo Ranger IPA takes off September 1

CHICAGO, June 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- United is adding something new for every taste with several new in-flight menu items available for purchase. Starting July 1, customers can experience a slice of Chicago with personal-size Uno's deep-dish pizza, and United will expand its onboard beer list to include New Belgium Voodoo Ranger IPA beginning September 1.

United customers will also have more Choice Menu options from which to choose, including Bistro on Board items like the breakfast egg white flatbread; Uno's deep dish spinach, cheese and garlic pizza; Thai-style Chicken Ciabatta sandwich; and the new, Mediterranean-inspired Protein Box, featuring a healthy mix of almonds, sesame sticks, roasted red pepper hummus and cracked wheat salad.

United has also refreshed some of its popular Snack Shop items, including the Tapas Box, a customer favorite. The updated Tapas Box includes flatbread crackers, almonds, bruschetta, cheese spread, hummus, olive crackers, dried fruit, ginger mints and a sea salt dark chocolate caramel.

"As part of our ongoing commitment to putting our customers at the center of everything we do, we are always listening to their feedback when it comes to food choices on board our flights," said Jimmy Samartzis, United's vice president of Catering Operations. "Our customers told us they are craving pizza, and we heard them. We are excited to offer two new options – a breakfast egg white flatbread served on morning flights and deep dish pizza from hometown favorite Uno's on afternoon and evening flights."

All new menu items and refreshed snackboxes will be available for purchase on flights within the U.S. with a scheduled flight time of more than 3.5 hours and on all international flights from the U.S. to Canada, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Snack Shop items including the Tapas, Classic, Select and Ben Flyin Kid's snackboxes are available on all flights over 1.5 hours within North America, including the Caribbean and select Latin American cities, Singapore and Australia. As for the egg white flatbread, I thought the taste was OK. It was "crisp/dry" on the edges but not in the middle. It was is dense and thin so it doesnt really get soggy in the middle like bread. It was just difficult to eat. I try not to get my hands dirty while stuck in the back. The flatbread is one of those very thin almost cracker like "breads" so it is very difficult to slice into. I tried to use my hands and tear and you can't really tear even strips. Finally I folded it in half and ate it like a taco.

I haven't tried the deep dish. I grew up in chicago but don't like deep dish. I imagine I wouldn't like the deep dish version that is served on a plane. I usually like some meat with my meal too. Hearing reports that it is soggy is disappointing.

The last time I looked at the menu, I was a little confused seeing "combos" not knowing which are just multiple items and which are packaged together. I wasn't sure which items I could choose for me free 1k item.

MR Plat -> UA Silver. MR Gold gives nothing.

But as noted fezzington is an FA, and (I believe) was making the comment on behalf of disappointed E- pax who didn't get the sandwich.

Additionally, the future menus will feature new items not yet seen on the menus, although there is always a possibility that a favorite may come back in the future."

I'm sure this is partly in response to the egg white bfast not working out. In any case, they're tinkering and that's good to see.
Isn't that supposed to be SOP now - I thought the menu's were generally changed seasonally now, and rotating with a mix of 'favorites' coming back as well as new stuff.

Had my first non-morning flight in Y and tried the pizza. Not good. It was not heated well enough and the stuff is too heavy for the knife and fork. I think Uno's name is getting dragged through the cabin on this one.

Uno killed their own name long before UA was involved.

The pizza IME is inedible. I only have a burger maybe once a month but IMO the burger is the best choice left in Y.

I had the pizza on my way to SFO earlier today. It should have been warmer, but overall I liked it: It wasn't soggy, the tomatoes balanced out the cheese nicely, and once I cut into fourths, I could pick up a slice to eat as God intended. It was, however, rather filling. You could definitely split one with a friend if you'd both grazed at a lounge beforehand.

Agreed. The crust was pasty and inedible. The center was sauce and cheese on soggy dough.

I had the Voodoo Ranger IPA for the first time on Saturday. Great option over the Goose IPA, which is vastly inferior by comparison ^

I tried the pizza this week on a flight where I was in Y. I must say the taste was quite good, and it wasn't soggy, so was better than I'd expected as far as taste and texture.

I found the portion size to be really small, however. Pizza ingredients are cheap, so wishing they could make it a bit bigger.

I'd probably go back to the Cheeseburger next time if I was hungry, as I find that to be much more filling.

I tried Voodo IPA vs Blue Point and actually liked Blue Point better because it was less bitter.

I had 3 Y flights this past week and tried cheeseburger, pizza, and penne pasta+large meatball. Agree cheeseburger was most filling filling. The meatball tasted good, but penne pasta was average. The pizza tasted ok, but crust was hard to cut.

I'm all about the hops. Bitter is the name of the game for me

+1. Bluepoint is a solid brewery but their toasted lager (assuming that is what they were serving' isn't anything special.
