New BP printed at gate, no seat change

This is a new one for me - tried to search, but didn't find an exact match.

I have had a reservation in the system for some months. My seat is and always was 7A. 7A at booking, 7A at check in, 7A on the BP, 7A on the version in my Apple Wallet. No plane change, always an A320.

Get to the gate at ORD today, and when the agent scans my BP the machine goes BEEP BEEP BEEP and spits out a BP. She hands it to my saying "your new seat is 7A."

It didn't seem to be happening to anyone else, just me.

Did the boarding pass have the same sequence number on it?

Happens to about 1/100 scanned. No change, no sequence change, no seat change...no clue why

While we are here, what about when nothing has changed, but the bar code on my phone app changes? I open it and then you can see it change slighlty?

Then something in the details of your BP changed. Page 27 of this doc details the IATA standard for the data in the barcode. Adding checked bags, international travel doc check and a few other things could all change.

I always wondered about that. Hit refresh on your app when looking at the boarding pass & the bar code changes every time.

I've lost TSA Pre when the bar code changed for some reason just one time. However, I allllways do a screen shot of the boarding pass and that's what I used to go through security. And it worked.

Yup. My assumption is that it encodes the date/time when it was loaded.
