From AP:

United says passengers on United Express Flight 3411 are getting compensation equal to the cost of their tickets.

United spokeswoman Megan McCarthy said Wednesday that the passengers can take the compensation in cash, travel credits or miles.

Too little, too late. By the way, are they getting credit vouchers or cash back?

Probably with many restrictions if a voucher. It should be all cash and from the departure point not ORD.

Took three days of internet and media bashing worldwide for them to get to this point. This would have been more sincere if it had done sooner, but now it they are just trying to save face. Damage is already done, and it's going to take a lot of service interaction improvements for people to regain their trust.

Yea...I imagine it might be like this.....

'Here's a voucher for the 10 bucks we arbitrarily assigned to the ORD-SDF segment of your 950 dollar RT to wherever you were really flying. Now please don't talk to the media anymore or cooperate with the lawsuit"

LOL.

This better not be a sneaky way for United to get out of a class action. "Damages? Oh sorry, you've already accepted the refund and by doing so released all your claims (in the fine print)."

Not that doing so might not succeed, but the problem with trying that would be this: If they just "auto-refund" the pax to their CCs the pax would be able to counter that they never consented to recieve the refund or consciously gave any consideration to United for the refund and that under the law there was no contract, only a gift.
