The sCO 772s are far more reliable than the 788/9 family, even if the oldest sCO 772 is 18 years old. It did not surprise me that when I flew IAH-DEN-NRT two weeks ago that we were delayed out of IAH by 1.5 hours due to a technical issue on the 788; this has been an abysmal pattern for me on the 788 and I've lost hours of productive on the ground work time as a result of these 788 technical issues. So I went back to the non stop IAH-NRT flights except for two weeks ago, when the polaris cabin was sold out and I had to route through DEN.

Enjoy the 788/9 reliability issues, IAD hub.
The 787 is mechanically the most reliable fleet at UA followed by subUA 777 and then subCO 777 FWIW.

I have the impression that 3-class 763s are now concentrated in ORD with occasional EWR-LHR deployment.
Just flew on a 3-class 76I a few days ago Newark-Geneva. F on these aircraft is absolutely fabulous, at 1-1-1, so good for IAH flyers w/ the ability to sit up front in one of those 5 seats.

Agree, 1K is the best seat in the UA fleet.

SFO/IAH Disappearing 787's

Ok, FT'ers with the inside scoop: I just booked one of my usual runs RT IAH/SFO and noticed no more 787's with lie-flat seating in F/BF. Can anyone explain what is going on and why? Very sad.

I believe it's because the only 787 route in IAH is IAH-SYD. And that aircraft gets rotated with SYD-SFO/LAX, so no need to rotate it on the IAH-SFO.

As to your other point, as far as I know all of the United 787s have lie-flat seating in J.

@kale73--Thank you for your definitive reply!

I am particularly surprised/disappointed since they are primarily being replaced with 737's!

IAD-SFO and IAD-DEN are getting 787-8 frequencies soon.

Huh? UA doesn't fly IAH-SYD. They will, but not until next year.

That is correct, but my point was that UA doesn't need to fly any domestic 789 routes out of IAH, as they can swap and rotate aircraft in SYD.

Unlike when they operated 787 to LOS/GRU/EZE/SCL/FRA etc, they had to operate IAH-SFO to rotate the aircraft, as none of the international destinations overlapped with SFO.

Similar to how 77W is no longer scheduled on EWR-SFO after 10/28 as the aircraft will be rotated in NRT.

Well that's a downer for IAH-GIG.

Been enjoying the 787 and now it looks like I'm back in a 767. Hopefully we'll get some of the ones with the new Polaris J cabin upgrades for this route.

I've been following this thread but haven't said anything. Yes, I was thinking originally IAH got an upgrade. However looking at IAH-SFO it's all 739s now. No 777/767/787. Occasionally I see a 752. I miss the days of seeing each a 788/789 going to LAX and SFO (4 planes).

Since UA has relocated the 788 to IAD, where are the 763s and 777s flying domestically out of IAH?

1 or 2 787-8s on SFO-IAH each day (2 today, for example)

There are two 763s on IAH-EWR (UA557 and 665)
