*A NYC-SIN recommendations / GPU odds?

Hello,

Flying business class NYC-SIN and need your favorite route and carrier. Drowning in GPUs if there is a shot at first class upgrades...

Thank you.

Depending on the Fare Class, EWR/JFK-FRA-SIN on LH has a very realistic shot of getting upgraded using GPUs.

But you need one GPU for NYC-FRA and another GPU for FRA-SIN on LH flights. If your schedule is flexible, you may be able to find R spaces on EWR-HKG flights in the middle of the week. Good luck.

Other option for GPUs is JFK-NRT-SIN on ANA!

When are you going? The only flight to Hongkong, post 3/25, which will have Global First is UA 895 ORD-HKG. You can use the Polaris Lounge in ORD which is very nice but I'd rather not detour for a lounge. EWR-HKG is a 2 class plane with 2-2-2 layout and the nonstop saves quite a few hours. SFO-HKG is still the 747 until March 24th at which point the new 77W comes on line with the new Polaris seats which seem pretty sweet - but if you are in business nothing to upgrade to.

You're booking J and want to upgrade to F?

adambrau has your two options for UA F.

If you've got a whole bunch of GPUs the LH option to upgrade to F will give you a superior product to anything UA can offer.

On UA, from March 25 on the EWR-SFO-HKG-SIN routing offers the 77W from SFO-HKG (and possibly EWR-SFO).

EWR-ORD-HKG-SIN would be the least attractive in J due to 2-4-2 on the 772.

EWR-HKG-SIN is probably most efficient.

I would prefer to go via Europe to avoid the radiation zap from going over the pole. Plenty of GPUs to burn. So LH first is better than Singapore or Swiss business then?

I haven't actually done SQ J, but LH F is much better than Swiss J. J->F on LH is probably the best use of a GPU (maybe comparable with NH?). The bummer about it on this trip is that each way takes two GPUs, but if you have lots, then you will get good value for each GPU.

Yes. Not even close.

Can you do this with only one GPU? Or do you need two?

1 per segment so 2 each way.

IF (a big if) OP can upgrade from LH J to F, your advice is good. But unless they clear, he is in LH J and is taking a slightly longer route, and it appears that he can buy J on most/many airlines

I would think that taking SQ via FRA in J would be better, or if he wants the experience, take SQ via SFO on the a350. CX or the ME3 would also be good bets in J.

What advice? I answered this question:

I don't think the answer to that question is subject to reasonable dispute.

The only problem with that is that pesky layover in FRA. JFK-FRA-SIN has a 16 hour layover in FRA..

NYC-FRA-SIN for sure. NYC-FRA you can slum in J then use a GPU to UG FRA-SIN. FRA-SIN is a tough upgrade though, only 8F seats on the 388. Just flew this 3 days ago and my UG cleared after some asking around manually in the Z-gate SEN lounge ... The FCT is fabulous :) But there is a risk that FRA-SIN will not clear.
Next best I'd say is ANA with IMO a greater chance of clearing.
