Recent changes to United's policy on pajamas and slippers increased the official availability from flights '12+ hours' to flights '14+ hours'.
There are currently (October/November 2023) mixed reports about actual availability, with some shorter than 14-hour flights still being provisioned with pajamas and slippers.
The printed on-board menu reads:
"Sleep soundly in the sky
Slippers are available by request on all international flights, along with pajamas for flights scheduled 14+ hours.
Ask your flight attendant if you'd like them."
Previous Wiki updated February 22, 2023, left here until final eligible routes can be established:
"On flights longer than 12 hours, we also offer 100% cotton pajamas upon request." (https://www.united.com/web/en-US/con...laris-FAQ.aspx )
Pajamas are provisioned for about half of the eligible seats.
Flights with pajama service (for both directions)
SFO - ICN, PEK, PVG, TPE , AKL , HKG , CTU, SYD, TLV, SIN
EWR - TLV, NRT, PEK , DEL, BOM, HKG, PVG, CPT, JNB
ORD - NRT, PEK, PVG, HKG
LAX - PVG, SYD, MEL
IAD - NRT, PEK
IAH - NRT, SYD
(from United Twitter feed https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CyjFHZLWEAAQV7X
New flights have been added, and some flights ended)
Note: United employee shop sells pajamas for $9.99 a pair as of 12/10/20

I see that according to Polaris, flights of 12 hours are ultra long haul (and ones that warrant pj's).
How many flights are ultr long haul?
hKG-SFO clocks in at 11:50. So that is NOT ulh?

I'd be amazed if HKG-SFO wasn't put in this category. Partially because it's obviously very close to 12 hours, but mainly because SFO-HKG is over 14 hours and it would be odd to provide one level of service in one direction, and a different level of service on the return.
ORD/EWR/SFO-China/TPE, ORD/EWR-NRT, SFO-TLV. Probably a few more I'm not thinking off...

Interesting footnote for the methodology; although they're giving PJs to SFO-PEK which does not average >=12h by my reading of the December 1, 2016 UA timetable.
My guess is SFO-PEK got a gimmie since the next longest route (SFO-ICN) is over half an hour shorter.
Here are the biggest losers, FWIW:
It's a curious go-to-market strategy when you can be on a 12h35 SFO-ICN and not get pajamas, while a 10h45 TPE-SFO hour does get pajamas.

UA is looking at RT times, not just a particular OW, since the PJs are offered RT and not just OW,
SFO-PEK RT is 23:50 -- pretty darn close to nominal 12 hour min OW average.
None of the "losers" in your list are over 11:30 OW average. And the longest SFO-ICN seems to be on UA's list as another poster noted.

I completely understand. I normally change into PJ's on long haul, and obviously prefer it when I can throw out the old ones and get new ones.
So now I will have to carry a pair in my hand luggage, and ask on the TLV route if they have any on board.
Does anyone have experience with this route (I saw the speculation above, but no concrete reporting from someone who has flown the route since Polaris.

Of course my last overnight flight I decided to get comfy while we were still on the ground, so I changed before the door was even closed ... and that just happened to be my first aircraft swap in over a year. Ended up traipsing through EWR to our new gate in my loungewear.

NH F I have had the FAs drag me to the bathroom once we boarded to change. I didn't mind that in that but it depends on the rest of the day after the flight. I like my normal clothes to stay as fresh as possible if I am going to continue on another flight...similarly if I'm going to be eating/drinking while lounging with the risk of bumps I would rather spill something on the PJs vs. my clothes.
On UA flights like EWR-HKG, MEL-LAX, SFO-FRA I would often bring my own t-shirt and gym shorts to change in/out of. The part you get good at is the timing on when changing back into them towards the end of the flight as someone else mentioned the lav rush.

Polaris Pajamas -- Experiences, How to Request, Changing Logistics, ....
Pajamas are nice.
I ask for them but I do not wear them on the plane. I would like to but I really don't think it is feasible for me. I'm 6'5" and 220 lbs.
The issues I see for me are:
1. Bathroom really doesn't afford much maneuverability.
2. Don't want to walk on a public restroom floor with my bare feet.
3. Crowded bathrooms near landing (can't change before landing).
4. Rough weather near landing (can't change before landing).
5. Cuts into my sleeping time (have to get up early for changing).
How do you people who wear the PJs contend with these issues, are they issue with you and do you have other issues and/or solutions?
