First, I didn't sell the seat. United sold it!

While it certainly isn't the best seat in the house, it's still a first world problem!

I take it you bought a fairly last minute ticket, or you didn't choose your seat when you ticketed, or there was an equipment swap?

Are you on the plane now? Are you flexible? Can you SDC to another flight? Can you cancel and purchase a ticket on another airline that would be more comfortable?

You get the benefit of being able to have your seat reclined from the minute you get on the plane until you get off...
Ive never had an FA notice that the seat wasn't upright

Same time you still got the same meal and seat width and leg room
The lack of a reclining seat is only one very small part of the entire package

I spent 4 hours yesterday in 7D, next to two guys my size (6'5" and 250) and longingly looked at 5B, which was fairly close to me. I'd trade any time :-)

Never take the last row in FC. Seats may not recline fully. Equipment downgrade - may get bumped from FC. By the time FA comes around to take your food order, your choice is gone.
Flying Machine and MatthewLAX like this.

Seriously? A 1k MM never figured out that the last row of First is sometimes against a hard bulkhead? You can always check with SeatGuru...

Come on, guys! Give the OP a break! I fully sympathize with him. Any seat in a 737-x00 is bad, but last row in -900 is inexcusable.

I was rebooked into a 737-900 over Christmas (I was suppose to be on a 777) from SFO-HNL because bad weather delayed the first leg of the trip from IAD. And yes, I was assigned 5A! It was the only option so I sucked it up. Not what I had originally paid for but UA got me home for the holidays and that is what mattered most. I think the F configuration for this plane is poor, at best.

People say I am crazy, but I would rather fly a E175 from IAD-LAX

I find the plane better in almost all respects

dunno if it could make it without refueling though

The only thing to make it worse is if stuff is put behind the seat like coats or a roll away

Went downhill when they used these 739's to replace 757's and 767's transcon.

I have long legs. I always take row 5 over row 1 on a 739. Now if you have a strong nose and you are on 5E than I feel you!

For the record, I prefer the last row of F.... Used to be the best on 73G, 738 & A320. Just like the OP, I too have booked the last row on the 739 and learned the hard way. In my opinion, the worst seat is row 1 on any narrow body as I have long legs and can't stand staring at a wall for hours! To each his own!

Also, I think I'd rather take an E175 on A side tanscon too!
