Snacks at the gate for delayed flights

Have never seen this before. Is it new? They just wheeled up 2 carts with free water and snacks due to a delay on UA944. Pringles, cheez-its, granola bars, water, etc.

Never seen this before. Encouraging, but might just be an ORD thing.

Delta does this...

on nearly every delay, And the snack basket is actually quite nice (some of the items are better then the FC snack basket). United has needed to do something like this for a while, hopefully they are copying Delta here.

Could also be one of the famous ORD pilots. But talk about a way to brighten the mood at the gate.

UA does this. I've seen this on many occasions.

Most recently in MSY last year.

I used to see this occasionally years ago (it was definitely pre-merger). I've only seen it once since, at ATL last summer when we were stuck overnight and there were no hotels available. They came around with little goodie bags that had mostly useless stuff and a bottled water. Also passed out 2 blankets per person to anyone who wanted them. It was a gentleman from UA, not general airport personnel.

Nope, it is the company. Usually done on 4 hour+ delays.

I've experienced it most often at SFO

They did it for a delayed flight I was on at IAH last year. I thought it was because it was late at night and most of the food outlets in the airport were closed. Apparently not.

I knew it was United, I just meant the pilots like the gate scents, or the lasagna in the UC. Thanks for clarifying. Was nice to see and just surprised I'd never seen it before now. Flight is "only" about 1:45 delayed.

They rolled out the program last Fall. Experienced it at PDX for SFO ATC delays.

I saw this a couple of years ago at IAH when UA7 experienced a long delay.

This has been in place for quite some time. At least a handful of times last year alone that I can recall in ORD, IAH, and SLC that I had it at. Remember if even from the year before. Typically only have seen on delays of 2+ hours IME

Didn't see them @ EWR last week during a 7.5 hour rolling delay, where they only gave vouchers if you also asked for a hotel at the United Club.
