It's worth an email to customer service to explain the situation. A reasonable outcome would be a refund of the unflown segment, as well as an ETC for the cost of the Uber (with maybe a 25% bonus on top).

I'd submit the Uber receipt and note the total delay time in arrival to MRY.

Tuesday's AKL-SFO delayed take off 1h because of lighting warnings meant the ground staff couldn't pull the plane to the gate. Luckily with the winds we arrived at SFO on time.
As per MRY...I had a late flight NRT-SFO where I missed luggage check but I could have made the SFO-MRY leg. I ended up renting a car and driving, UA gave me a ETC for $300 (rental was $250) which to me was fare. This was a 1K on a GPU'd J ticket.
I took an Uber from my house in town to MRY to pick up a rental two weeks ago and was surprised when the driver told me she would take people to SFO/SJC and likes the long trips and there's even ways that they can go up to SFO and then on the way back try to get people who only want to come back down to MRY/area. She even drove someone from Monterey to SLO the other week.

UA840 SYD-LAX just flew over my house ~ 1 hour late
Only of interest to SYD flyers.....

With the seasonal time changes:
840 to LAX is 11.20
870 to SFO is 11:50
When 100 to IAH comes on line in January it will be
840 to LAX at 11:20
100 to IAH at 11:50
870 to SFO at 13:00
So it least we (those of us who prefer) get an afternoon departure of one flight to the US.

UA 82 EWR-DEL cancelled MX today. At this rate, UA will soon have to pull out of this market. 3 flights cancelled in the last one week.

There are two UA 82s heading from EWR to DEL right now, arriving within an hour of each other. One is a 23 hours delayed flight from last night. However, only one is scheduled to turn back as UA83. The previous night's UA83 was cancelled and doesn't seem to have been rescheduled.
