Two days in a row that Venice to Newark has cancelled. Looks like there are two planes stuck there now.

59 (Frankfurt to San Francisco) just posted a 20+ hour mechanical delay, now leaving tomorrow 10am.

This is the same aircraft (N105UA) that ran 17 hours late as UA927 SFO-FRA on 7/30. Scheduled to depart on 7/30, it actually left SFO on 7/31 and hasn't moved since arriving at FRA. Apparently it's still having maintenance issues as departed, returned to the gate, and then canceled due to maintenance (listed below).

8/3 UA872 TPE-SFO Looking at a delay of 8 hours and 10 minutes. ETD now at 6 pm "Due to Operational Difficulties." Anyone on this flight care to comment on what that means?
BTW This looks like the maiden 777-300ER flight from TPE (8/2 departure showed a 747-400)

Ended up going out 3:25 late, landed 2:47 late.

United had a 777 with the same config (8 F seats) arriving at 8 PM from FRA. Sat overnight for the 12:45 PM to NRT. Any idea why they couldn't have swapped the planes, so the late flight from PEK would have been the one to sit overnight? Seems like they could have made the switch and saved a major delay. They even arrived at the same gate at IAD, 4 hours apart.

The FRA inbound plane probably had scheduled maintenance that was required to be done, especially if they moved it from the gate after arrival, if they would have turned it back to FRA it could be days before they could schedule it back for MX and it could cause FAA fines if they miss required MX work.

United manages to pull off yet another MX-related debacle this week.

Let's summarize:
Tuesday's 169 VCE to EWR cancels due to MX.

Wednesday's 169 cancels as well due to MX. ALSO - the 2nd segment added to accommodate those on Tuesday's cancellation also cancels out (due to MX!).

Now into the THIRD day:
2718 today - close to 5 hour delay. Inbound from EWR arrives Venice at 9:26 a.m. / does not fly back to Newark until 12:32 - 3 hours to turn around a 767.

169 today - 4:34 delay. Inbound, which was an empty 767 from LHR arrives Venice at 12:42. Doesn't depart Venice for Newark until 3:09. It took over 2 hours to load any EMPTY plane?

Simply insane...

sounds like UAs intl operations. The VCE flight has a horrific track record for some time now.

Or one can look at it the other way. UA prevented an outright cancellation by ferrying a plane from LHR (sacrificing one LHR-EWR in the process) and helping clean up the mess in VCE. That's good operations.

Just because a plane is there doesn't mean the plane and crew are ready for a revenue flight. Without knowledge of the details, it's impossible to say anything about the turn time. A little over 2 hours for that one turn isn't all that unusual.

And to top it off, we don't know exactly what caused N675UA to be unable to fly. UA's "aircraft maintenance" is a wide brush. It could be sub-par work, or it could be out of the airline's control.

Frankly, does it matter? UA still has a huge maintenance issue relative to Delta and they make little progress to address it.
