tonight's flight going to EZE is fine ... strange, swap 772 for 773 but no extra segment tomorrow.
This is really weird. They fly a 773 down to EZE, and then cancel its return that is not scheduled to leave for another ~12 hours -- and call it operational difficulties, not maintenance. It is ship 2134, N59034. Does anyone know the fuller story? Has it been ferried back to the U.S.? And why would it be called "operational difficulties?"

This of course made my inbound 7/31 UA169 VCE-EWR delayed 4h50min. I believe this is eligible for EU261, departing from EU state and not extraordinary circumstances.

Ship #2134 (777-300ER with new Polaris seats) is still at EZE and is scheduled to fly to IAH tomorrow 8/1 as UA2711, in addition to the regularly-scheduled UA818.

It indeed seems odd that a newly-configured craft (which doesn't normally fly this route) is delayed 24 hrs departing, and this was scheduled around the time the aircraft left IAH to fly to EZE.

Could it be crew availability? The 77W requires more crew than the 772 that normally flies this route, maybe one crew member got sick in EZE and they don't have enough crew to meet the minimum, or (let's hope not) UA didn't plan right and they didn't have enough crew in EZE to make the turn so they have to delay and bring it back with the same crew that flew it in.

If this gets any worse, maybe a new wiki: "Consolidated On Time International Flights (2017)"?

Might be shorter/more compact!

It is unusual to see such a delay SFO-TPE.

I had a colleague on this flight and fully half the delay was a fuel gauge issue. Also, this plane, a 747, after returning to SFO was to be retired and replaced by a 777 300 ER, this is according to the crew. I was scheduled to take this new plane from TPE to SFO on Thursday but it has now been delayed by 8 hours - from 9:50am or 6:00pm. I have now rescheduled through HKG getting back to BOS, moves my departure up to 6:00am but gets me to BOS at roughly my original arrival time.
