Normally a 3 man FLT Deck but this is an IOE(pilot training FLT, so it now requires 4. Built Extra Stop in HNL for re-crew. This avoids an overnight delay for crew rest. 2 pilots will Dead Head to HNL and be ready for ETD 0600-4. Only 2 pilots required on HNL LAX leg. HNL Ops(Jeff) advised.

If I were on that flight, I would be POed that United, evidently for their own reasons (see Runner's post), turned my non-stop into a one-stop.

To other posters, only a headwind issue going West, not East, so its clearly not fuel.

I was under the impression this is what allowed the flight to get out on time instead of sitting at NRT for a crew rest delay. Maybe I'm reading the blurb up top wrong.

The crew stop for UA33 probably has to do with the trouble with UA139 DEN-NRT on Sunday that cancelled or was heavily delayed. (can't figure out which). It looks to have made the best of the situation and avoided a cancellation or even longer delay. I'd say a two hour detour is better than no flight at all.

Should be four for a flight of that length. I believe the standard FAA rules require two captains and two first officers for flights blocked over 12 hours. Crew rest facilities are also required for that length of time.

Expert flyer is showing Maintenance.

Was UA canceling SYD-SFO/LAX this much when they were flying the 772 and 744 on this route? IMHO if they are canceling at least 1 of their 14 weekly flights from SYD they may need to look at a different aircraft type.

Problems with the EWR/TXL route

On April 4th UA962 had to make an unscheduled stop at Bangor, Maine, enroute to TXL from EWR, ultimately arriving about 4 hours late. The return flight today, April 5th is going to be about 6+ hours late. United website calls it mechanical, so passengers should all apply for EU261 - 600 Euros compensation.

As this originated in the USA from a US carrier I don't believe they qualify for EU261, as it is only applicable to non-EU carriers on flights departing the EU

The passengers on the return from TXL will qualify for EC261 compensation.

The TXL departure is most certainly EU261 eligible.

I just decided to do some airline to airline comparisons based on route. Using flightstats. I understand that flightstats is not the gold standard for on time statistical reporting but it is published and has a convenient UI. Here is the results on all airlines flight nonstop SYD - LAX. Actually UA does not look too bad. It looks to me that when the are delayed, they are really delayed but overall they are on time a higher percentage of the time than any of their competitors. I was expecting much worse (and expected QF to be way better than they were).

UA 840 86% on time 1% cancelled
ranked 2.8 out of 5 for overall performance
ranked 4.8 out of 5 for on time performance
ranked 0.8 out of 5 for delay performance

QF 11 58% on time 0% cancelled
0.7 out of 5 overall
0 out of 5 on time
1.4 out of 5 delay

VA 1 84% on time 0% cancelled
4.1 out of 5 overall
4.9 out of 5 on time
3.3 out of 5 delay

DL 40 82% on time 0% cancelled
2.7 out of 5 overall
4.2 out of 5 on time
1.1 out of 5 delay

This evening's (4/5/17) IAH-EZE (UA819) is cancelled due to "operational disruptions that are impacting flight operations", as is the return flight tomorrow (UA818).

UA961 | FRA-EWR | 764 | Late 1:47 due to late aircraft arrival (UA960, which was late by 2:37 due to maintenance)

UA55 | CDG-EWR | 752 | Late :55, but I'm listing it because the inbound aircraft (UA54) arrived 2:21 late, because its inbound (UA1071) was late by 2:59 coming in from SFO because it seems that OPS swapped aircraft so the inbound for UA1071 was UA1991, which arrived 2 minutes late at 1:25pm, even though UA1071 was supposed to leave at 11:00am.

UA900 | LHR-SFO | 744 | Late 1:05 because the inbound (UA901) was late 3:02 due to maintenance

UA857 | SFO-PVG | 744 | Currently late 1:48 as the aircraft returned to the gate in SFO and incurred a 2:31 maintenance delay

UA58 | SFO-FRA | 744 | Currently late :58, but departed 1:34 late due to maintenance

And yesterday,

UA956 | EWR-GVA | 763 | Late 1:10 because the inbound aircraft (UA2772, ORD-EWR) was delayed by 1:35 for ATC.

Also, UA2772 (788, #3903 ), which was flying SFO-IAH as a ferry flight.

N IAH/LX OPERATIONS
D FCF/FERRY FLIGHT -NO REVENUE CUSTOMERS

SKED SFO ORIG 1100A GTD SHIP 3903
IAH 430P TERM GTA C-24
The 744s are certainly working on their "last stand" before retirement.

That would be the general strike.
