For those of us (me) who don't know, why would there be a gate fitting done at an airport that the 77W is not expected to service anytime soon?

I don't think you can judge by the leather color anymore. I was on a A320 (ship 4276/N476UA, New F) ORD-SFO this afternoon and it was most certainly SL/New F but all of the Y seats were a kind of drab tan rather than the blue that I'm used to on SL birds [the new F seats were that blue, however]

Potential charter or rescue flight. Equipment swaps. Even 744 has been back to ORD a couple of times.

Wasn't tan the original color of the slimline seats when they first started retrofitting the A320s? ISTR they switched colors after the first batch of retrofits.

Besides the noted possibilities of equipment swaps, charters, etc., you might as well get this out of the way now, while you're doing a lot of non-rev training flights, than decide a year from now that you want to schedule a 77W to ORD and have to do this all over again.

Yes, the first slimline seats on the A319/320 were grey. It looked a lot like an LH cabin.

They started swapping out the seat covers for the same blue/navy patterns seen on the 737 slimlines. Not sure whether or not there are still any Airbuses out there still with the grey seats, as I now avoid them for their noticeable discomfort.

What does gate fitting mean/involve, anyway? Is it just adjusting where the jetbridge needs to meet the aircraft? Anything else?

I guess it also involves adjusting the position of all ground equipment, ground personnel familiarization, also studying interference to neighboring gates / taxiways/ roadways while the plane is parked in place? especially we may have an a/c with longer after-section parked at gate 76/77 where tail go outward towards taxiway C

Gate fitting at ORD seems odd. ANA already operates the 773 from the C gates.

Only C-10, but they may want to try other Cat E parking stands including C-16, C-18 and B-16, B-17

Just flew on one. Grey Y seats with ISP, New F. Ship #4247. Also I fly LH a lot intra Europe and although the seats appear to be structurally the same, it felt to me as there may have been some extra padding in the UA seat. Not to be confused with comfortable however!
