Thanks SR and transportprof for responding.
Yes, I went back to my photos from a June 2017 trip PHL - IAH (lunch) and IAH - LAX (dinner) and no soup. Last few flights I haven't been upgraded so no chance to compare yet for the latest food downgrades

Seems like dessert is now served on the same tray as the entire meal.

Oct. 15 EWR-LAS UA 1794 lunch
I had the Spanish paella with shrimp and sausage of chicken. Rather good. The other choice was some kind of salad, but I don't remember the details. After lunch we got a slice of chocolate cheesecake, very tasty but no doubt many calories.
I was a bit amused that the FA pronounced paella with an L sound instead of the proper sound which is more like a Y sound. But that's okay; his service was good. There are a number of webpages that give the proper pronunciation.

This is what happens when VX gets swallowed by AS. Someone needs to start another premium airline

Oct. 18 LAS-EWR UA 1591 breakfast
I had the quiche, which was pretty good. The plate also had Chobani strawberry yogurt, also very good. The other choice was a Greek protein plate; the FA mentioned feta cheese and hummus, among other things. After lunch we got a wafer-shaped "waffel" (yes, spelled like that instead of waffle) containing a filling of caramel and something else that was sweet. A tasty dessert.
Of course there are webpages that write about waffel versus waffle, but I don't want to go OT.

Must've meant they didn't cater the cookies (assuming they haven't cut those too) and gave out the stroopwafels in coach...
