Global Services Qualifying Discussion- 2017

Use Global Services 2017 Notifications (ONLY) to report your actual notification. Here is a form for people to fill out once they receive their Global Services qualification notification:

Follow the form through and fill out as much as you can. There are a few required fields and a few optional fields. The more data you can provide, the better off we will be for building a prediction model.

You can view the results here:

To help standardize inputs ( and based on reports only UA operated flights are considered for GS), please make reference to
UA PQDs (only PQDs earned in UA operated flights). It takes a little work using the data in Account Summary Details to remove any non-UA operated PQDs.

Likewise UA PQMs, UA BIS and UA CPM.

IF YOU WERE DENIED GLOBAL SERVICES FOR 2017, PLEASE FILL OUT THIS FORM

BIS is actual scheduled flight distance (Great Circle Mileage Distance -- GCM) between airports with 500 mile minimum for elites. This is the standard used for Lifetime miles also. Those flying mostly sub-500 segments sometimes prefer to not use the minimum rule.

The definition for CPM is a bit vaguer, especially since CPM is used in multiple different situations.

Believe for the purpose of this thread, GS qualification, folks are using

PQD CPM = UA PQDs / UA BIS

Note there is no direct evidence UA uses this CPM number for GS Qualification but it is a number FTers like to use.

As for BIS, UA does not report this number your account and it needs to be manually tracked.

One way is to make use that PQMs are based on BIS but there may be a multiplier / bonus for high end fares. If always in 2x PQMs, you could divide by 2 to get BIS.

rwsteelers had a good method for determining UA BIS -- the change in Lifetime Miles from the first of the year.

To find your PQDs if >than $12K
Go to MileagePlus activity since my last statement and it is in the "Account summary" table at the top of the page.

Note this is not just the UA operated PQDs (which is commonly believed to be what matters for GS) but rather your total PQDs.

You need to fly more international segments if you want this.

Great thread!
It's not impossible for you to make it, but I don't think super likely. My wife qualified last year with just under $40,000 PQD, albeit on about half the PQM of you (so at a correspondingly double cpm).

Hopeful to make it in 2017

Will be sitting at $52,249 United metal airfare, 105,610 BIS miles, 148,855 PQM by end of November.

Will end year at $66,223, 121,171 BIS Miles, 173,045 PQM.

Fly out of IAH. Mostly all D, Z, F, A, P fares. Some M.

$/BIS Mile - $0.55. $/PQM $0.38.

I suspect my chances are good, but interested in others thoughts.

You will get it in Jan if you are qualifying - I had similar stats last year and my first-time qualify came around Jan 5. If you are already GS, you can re-qualify in December (usually the first week)... with those stats, you would requalify in December no issues.... if you are currently GS. Otherwise, you will wait til January if you are on the bubble.

So looks like I will finish out year close to 80k PQD 95%+ UA metal 016 stock. I have trips coming up in January and February 2017 - it doesn't impact my strategy when I buy the tickets, right? The PQD is calculated when I actually fly the ticket despite what year it was purchased? I am not worried of a re-qual to GS for 2017, but I don't think I need to spend more in 2016 this year for next years flights? I think I answered my question.

One other thing. I wish there was a column that listed BIS miles in the MP account section...with all the bonus miles it is hard to know...

That's an interesting question. My guess would be they count it in the year where the revenue is recognized (when you fly).

Correct.

You could book expensive fights in 2016 for 2017 and cancel them.

I started traveling in May and am currently at:

204,073 PQM
54.5 PQS
$34.5k PQD

I'm based out of EWR with all my travel being C, D, J fares on EWR-SFO.

I am predicting another 5-6 RTs (~50k-60k PQM/~$10k PQD) before year end. Do I have any shot at GS? Not sure if it matters, but this is also the first time I've ever had any sort of UA elite status.

Last year I made it with:

123,426 PQM
49 PQS
$50,356 PQD ($45,940 excluding the short LH and SK flights in Europe)

This year I will end up with:

171.804 PQM
52 PQS
$51,144 PQD ($50,249 excluding the short LH and SK flights in Europe)

I am hopeful. (IAH)

Made GS for the first time last year. Travel was a bit off this year to the $$ constaints at work.

Will end up the year with :
PQM 149,042.00
PQD $28,852.00
BIS 98,061.00
CPM $29.42
PQS 31

Doubt that it will be enought to make it again, but it was fun while it lasted.
