Multiple seats for same passenger (award question)

Hello,

I'm booking two award trips (for myself), and am going to cancel one of them after I've made a decision on where to go. My question is, the first leg of both trips is the same. Is it okay to have two seats (it would be on LH) for that leg, or will that screw something up? Final destinations are different..

Also, are the fees/taxes refunded for the cancelled trip?

Thanks!

No, it's not ok to have 2 tickets on the same flight. LH may cancel one or both of your tickets because speculative bookings are forbidden.

There are redeposit fees, or change/cancellation fees depending to your status with United.

Oh, yikes. I just made a decision and cancelled one of them. They were both within 24 hours. Do you think I'll be okay?

Edit: just re-read your post, and deleted my response accordingly.

You should be fine though.

Yep, you'll be fine. Airlines periodically run sweeps to make sure that there aren't duplicate bookings in their systems. If the duplicate booking no longer exists at the time they run the sweep, no worries.
