  1. when JFK - HKG switches to a 772 with Polaris or when ORD - HKG switches to a 772 with Polaris?
  2. and which could I expect first? Chicago or New York?
thanks much
I wouldn't get your hopes up for JFK-HKG switching to Polaris...

we believe OP meant EWR (see post title).

Anyways AFAIK no way to know. I'd expect a phase-in on both of the routes.

I was thinking that since UA was concentrating the 77W in SFO and EWR first that from an internal cabin product consistency perspective....EWR would be before ORD. Complete WAG speculation.

There are currently (only) 5 772s retrofitted with Polaris. However once the summer season is over expect to see more mod lines open and (as the retrofit process gets bedded in) shorter retrofit times. I would expect that all the pmUA 772s in the 2-4-2 config (33 total) will be done well before this time next year and a some of the pmCO ships (22 total) done too.

Also, with the merging of the (sUA and sCO) flight attendant rosters starting October there will be less demarcation of which aircraft fly from where. So ORD may not get Polaris 772s on the routes you want short term, but may get pmCO aircraft (2-2-2 in J) rather than pmUA (2-4-2) in the interim. All in all I suspect for ORD-HKG you’ll see a Polaris 772 (with Premium Economy too) in the medium term rather than later.

Also, the new delivery 787-10s (with Polaris) will be based at EWR, which will likely serve high capacity marque transatlantic routes.

that sounds great. Thanks. I'm jealous of my co-workers that have the Polaris configuration now from New York to Mumbai.

I look forward to taking Polaris then next year on the Hong Kong routes.

You could do ORD/EWR-SFO-HKG to get Polaris seat on the SFO-HKG flight.

Given the sCO 772s are scheduled to be retrofitted later, I would surmise that ORD-HKG gets the seats first.

From what I heard, HKG sUA base will "invade" sCO territory (EWR-HKG) after October. HKG base already operates 77W SFO full time and 772 ORD part time. sCO already lost EWR-NRT to NRT sUA base. IAH-NRT may be mixed up too.

I was under the impression that once the new contract goes live in October there will be no sCO and sUA, just UA FAs.

Correct and with flights where language speakers are required ie EWR-HKG you might see a mix based pairing speakers HKG based non speakers EWR based. This will also change from month to month. One month it might be mixed base pairing EWR, HKG and the next it could be all EWR or all HKG.

Yes, but currently many planes that can only be crewed by one side, e.g. CO772 vs UA772/772HD and newest 789s are sUA vs older 789s and all 788s being sCO. Also, HKG and NRT crews still need to somehow operate from their bases and obviously can't operate domestic. So when the walls come down between the two divisions, equipment changes not possible before will become possible.

I could do that. And I appreciate the suggestion. Is the SFO - EWR transcon a nice ride? It's been a while since I took PS.

It will be lie-flat seats (but not the new Polaris seats) and slightly enhanced meal service.

United Polaris Business Class - On which flights

I'm flying UA (flight 901) SFO to LHR. Does anyone know if this has the new Polaris product (2-2-2) config?

Cheers,

Iain.

Depends on the date and a swap is always possible, but yes, 901 is currently scheduled as a 777-300 w/true Polaris. And technically, it's a 1-2-1 config.
