The spousal unit and I are taking a quick EOTY trip to TPE this week and I can confirm UA871/872 are being run with a 77W, Polaris-config'ed w/ 3-4-3 in the back.

I just noticed to my horror that I ended up on one of these for SFO->HKG in Jan. All other 777s I've flown to China from the US always had 3-3-3 in the rear. I only had the 777 3-4-3 experience once from BOS to SFO (domestic 772, not 77W) It was horrible: it's so tight that you need to twist sideways to avoid physically rubbing shoulders with the neighbors. Only personal device entertainment that didn't work for most of the flight. It was the most uncomfortable cross country flight, I ever had. Using this configuration for a TPAC seems insanity to me.
I really, really hope my GPU clears, but that's unfortunately a long shot. Lesson learned: check the exact aircraft before you hit "book".

3-4-3 is becoming common on the Asian carriers' 77Ws, too.

This is why I avoid ALL 77Ws unless I know I can get an upgrade to C or premium economy.

By the end of the decade or so, the only three major airlines that I know of that will continue to have nine abreast in Y on their 777 fleets are SQ, JL, and DL. In fact, DL and JL will be the only major airlines with at least 18 inch wide seats in the rear on all of their widebody aircraft. I don't count the 777X as Boeing has figured out to install ten abreast in Y with 18 inch seats.

77Ws do come with personal seatback IFEs in economy vs the Domestic HD 772s which do not have, is this correct? Sorry! I have not flown Y for a long time.

As far as 3-4-3 Y configuration, UA is not a trend setter, it is merely a follower. If passengers (myself included) are dreading of flying UA 3-4-3, what choices do we have when majority of the airlines around the world switching to 3-4-3 configuration. . At least, there is a chance of upgrading on UA.

I believe that NH halted their move to 3-4-3 and is sticking with 2-4-3 on most of their 77Ws.

Thai Airways (TG) has a sizable 777 fleet, both 200s and 300s. They are all 3x3x3, and I haven't heard of any plans to change that...

Thai has no idea what they even want to do with their hodgepodge fleet of aircraft type I can't imagine they have anyone looking at seating re-configs.

So....yes a reduced holiday schedule in some markets, but the planes are staying busy making money.

Interesting. 77Ws at LAX - would be great to have them on regular runs as well! With the 789s currently scheduled on major/all overseas routes, it might be a while until true Polaris will be offered out of LAX.

No argument, but benefits the passengers greatly as they remain a very comfortable ride.

You're missing a few — TG and NH (as mentioned above), also KE, OZ, CA and TK off the top of my head.

(NH has 6 77Ws that are 3-4-3 and fly NRT-SFO/IAH/one LAX frequency but the remaining 16 including the most recent deliveries are 2-4-3 and they seem to be keeping them that way, so they still count in my book so long as you don't fly them from SFO/IAH.)

i believe BR is still 3-3-3, and I haven’t heard of any plans for them to reconfigure.

BR is already 3-4-3 on new deliveries (including the TPE-SEA and some of the TPE-SFO frequencies). However I am not familiar with whether or not existing 77Ws in 3-3-3 will be retrofit or not.

Haven't seen much discussion on the actual thread topic of future 777-300ER routes lately. Any rumors about any additional routes? My interest is mainly in flights leaving out of airports that are not on the west coast.
