Since I purchase coach (often very expensive tickets) I will be avoiding them at all cost. I'm guessing upgrades will be hard.

Why? Given there are going to be the same number of J seats as there are GF + BF seats on the 772s, I would assume the probabilities of upgrades will likely be the same.

Easier than with the competition given the dense nature of the Polaris seat. (This is a good thing for everyone, including the company.)

Odds may actually be higher, since the GF seats on 772 and 744 are not available for upgrades from Y. 77W will have 60 BF vs. 40 on the 772 and 52 on the 744.

SFO-HKG is approximately 400 miles farther than SFO-AKL. Nor would I call any 14 hour flight "relatively short."

SFO-HKG makes sense on 77W, this way, UA can rotate aircraft at HKG (and perform any maintenance). SFO-HKG-EWR-HKG-SFO, similar to how they rotate aircrafts at NRT.

Not to get too far off-topic, but .bomb was actually offering me a paid upgrade from Y to GF today on EWR-LHR. Undoubtedly another random tech issue

I would agree that the 77W will likely to end up with PEK/HKG/NRT as most likely destinations out of EWR/SFO.

PEK/HKG/NRT are three of the most flown destinations for the 77W, and there should be enough spare parts and maintenance crew based at those three cities serving all the airlines fly the 77W/GE engines.

SIN is another 77W base, but I doubt UA will use the 77W on HKG-SIN.

I can see 77W rotation out of SFO/EWR to NRT/HKG/PEK and possibly FRA/LHR/PVG pending on frequencies and demands.

technical issues or not, IIRC, UA does not offer GF between EWR and LHR.

There has been one three-class plane from EWR to LHR throughout the year.

The 772s that fly EWR-BOM and EWR-DEL have 50 BF at present.

Deliveries

Afternoon,
I tried searching, but couldn't find when the new aircraft are scheduled to be delivered. Are they all being delivered at the beginning of 2017, or will it be staggered (like 1 a month)?

Thanks.

My guess is EWR-HKG/PVG/PEK/DEL/BOM/TLV as very likely along with SFO-HKG/PEK.

Do folks think it is likely that routes will consistently have 77Ws fly them, or that 772s may sub in every now and then? Just wondering...if it takes 3 birds to fully service a route on a daily basis (I think?), then there would only be 5 locations that could get non-stop 77W coverage. If I had to guess, EWR-HKG and (probably this one, since there will be 3 based in SFO) SFO-HKG will get it non-stop. I would venture to guess EWR-NRT is likely as well, and perhaps the other ULR destinations from EWR will see a mix of 77W and 772s.

It does make me wonder when 772 retrofitting will begin in earnest...
