Wouldn't shock me. SFO-DTW is overdue and is a natural addition. SFO-CVG would be a nice at well, although it's a little more surprising. This is a nice shot at DL if true.

Flights got loaded into the GDS today. I got the same press release from UA as he did. For both cities UA is playing up Asia connections; definitely a dig at DL and their cuts to Asia lately.

Lufthansa Lounge DTW

If this is the case, and the DTW-SFO flight is a morning one as I would expect it would be in order to catch Asia connections, it should create some more business for the Lufthansa Senator Lounge at DTW.

Wow. CVG<->SFO is surprising...and very nice for me. Short drive down from DAY.

Assuming it is timed for early morning to catch TPACs out of SFO, it would open up many more options.

**Added: Plunking around on flight search and I can't seem to find it. Anyone have details on when it starts or timings?

Also didn't realize Frontier has some flights on this route, though doesn't seem to be daily.

It's on Google Flights beginning June 8, 2017. Though, I expect that the rest of the schedule hasn't been loaded in yet, or there are caching issues keeping Google from showing the earlier dates.

SFO-CVG 10:40AM - 6:10PM
CVG-SFO 7:00PM - 9:20PM

SFO-DTW 8:30AM - 4:20PM
DTW-SFO 5:30PM - 7:50PM

Thanks for posting the timings. Really does me no good for United connections TPAC. Bummer.

Surprised that they're not timed for most TPAC connections.

That makes sense. The other TPAC destinations can be reached via ORD.

Only NRT, PEK, PVG, and HKG. There are approximately a half a dozen more serviced through SFO. But yes, several major TPAC destinations can be reached via ORD.

TPE, KIX, HGH, CTU, ICN, XIY will require two connections for all cities without direct SFO flights.

Will UA offer CVG/DTW-ORD-ICN/TPE flights with the second segment operated by BR/OS? That would theoretically allow one-stops. I think SYD, SIN, PVG, & AKL were more important for connections because DL already offers DTW-Asia flights to PEK, NGO, ICN, PVG, and NRT. Confusing why CVG arrives at night though...

SFO-DTW is so long overdue. UA is finally starting to fill in some of the obvious dots in their network between large cities and hubs (EWR-SJC/SLC, ORD-SJC, SFO-DTW/MIA). SFO-CVG is a direct blow to DL. When DL announced the start of SFO-BOS and people wondered if UA would retaliate, looks like we have an answer.
