Non Rev Upgrade?

Hey guys,

I need you help on the upgrade policy of UA.

I wanted to fly internationally on a buddy pass. However Y is full and only F is available. If I put myself on the the standby list of Y, would I be upgraded to F at the gate if it's still open on the day of the flight?

Thank you for your help!! :)

No you will not. You must list for the highest possible cabin to be available for both it, and all downward cabins. Listing for E is going to relegate you to E, as it should, given the high price for a buddy pass to list for F (not that likely you'll see F during summer).

I should probably clarify that I fly as a family member of an UA employee, so it's not a buddy pass in that sense.

You should really be talking to your sponsoring family member.

list for highest, if anything they downgrade not upgrade.

meaning they will not assign a non rev a seat even if there are empty seats on the plane.
I don't want to list for first, as the cost to list would be too much.

I want to fly Y but if it's full then I would still like to get on the plane if there are emtpy seats. I could care less about the class I sit in, I just want to get there.

As an employee benefit and this is frequent flyer forum, this is the correct advice.
