Heads up: The Billion Mile Giveaway starts August 1

Hi everyone,

August 1, 2016 is the first day for United MileagePlus Chase Cardmembers to enter The Billion Mile Giveaway. As the name implies, we’re literally giving away one billion miles (yes, you read that right).

Every time you use your United MileagePlus Chase Credit Card between August 1 and September 30, 2016, you’ll receive an automatic entry for a chance to win. We’re awarding more than 140,000 prizes. Here’s the breakdown:

No purchase necessary. Visit united.com/billion for complete details and rules.

        Good luck to you Cardmembers!

They even cover the taxes if you're in the 25% marginal tax bracket:
One Hundred (100) Grand Prize Winners: One Million (1,000,000) MileagePlus award miles. Grand Prize will also include $7,500 cash (awarded in the form of a check to the winner) that may be used toward the payment of any/all applicable taxes associated with the prize. Total Approximate Retail Value ("ARV") of Grand Prize: $27,500 each.

For the IT security bug bounty they cover none of the taxes if you earn the 500k mile bounty.

But will they give you another check to cover the taxes on the cash paid out from the first check?

Or they could just compute the geometric sequence this creates. Instead of 25%, would be 1/(1-1/4)=1/3=33.3%.

They've already included that, if you're in the federal 25% bracket with no state income tax.

        From the small print:

2 - Non-Purchase Entry: Log on to https://www.billionmilegiveaway.com and follow the on-screen entry instructions to be entered. Enter as often as you wish, however, each entry must be manually key stroked. Non-Purchase Entries must be received by 11:59:59 PM ET on 9/30/16. To enter via this method, entrant must also be a member of the United MileagePlus® program as noted above.
Also looks like you don't technically need an MPE card either

How many FTers are going to break down their grocery order at self-check into 1-item orders to maximize their chances?

If you are moaning about having to pay tax on your lottery winnings, you are clearly losing the sight of the fact you won the lottery!?!? Lol...

I'd only complain that they think the value of a MP mile is $0.0275 when most of the bloggers put the value at 50-60% of that...

UA values them a 2 cents. The total value of the 1MM package is $20k for the miles and $7500 for the check.

And then the winner can't find Saver space to any of their preferred destinations....

As has been said - a nice problem to have.....good luck!

Exactly I won the lottery NOT the IRS, so why should I share?

Anyhow, this is a great giveaway, take it or leave it - No need to dig up some dirt just to complain.

I wonder - is it discriminatory to include Guam (a UA hub and a major military location) but not Puerto Rico?

        So, uh, a question

        So here's a question ...

Is the "legacy" Presidential Plus card (i.e. still MasterCard) considered an eligible MileagePlus credit card? I'd guess so but we all know what happens when we assume ...
