1273 keeps running until mid-month. There's a 10-day break with no midday flight. Would not really call "little to no metal" as it never drops below 3x daily (I think).

"Little/no metal" - yeah that's was probably not the best choice of words. I was originally looking from the East Coast, where Oct 1+, it showed just about every flight as requiring an interisland flight.

It was only during the last post that I dug deeper, and saw the specifics of the changes (eliminated all the late morning and early afternoon flights). If that's for a short period, it's just coincidental (and crappy timing!) that it happens when I'll be flying.

No. There's a schedule reduction off-season (fall thru mid-December), but there's usually a minimum of at least 2 non-stops daily ex LAX and SFO, with more on weekend. November is definitely off-season. With schedule reduction, UA appears to be making award travel via HNL to OGG more readily available than non-stops to OGG from coast.

I think you're still confusing award flight availability results dispayed with what displays when you try buy a ticket.

Yes, there should be, unless you find an agent willing to let you slide (rare these days), your original flight is full and they want to shift some of the loads to earlier flights with open seats (more common these days), or you have Pualani elite status and your number is in the ticket.

I can't remember if the change fee is $30 or $50 (it's been awhile since I've paid--Pualani status takes care of me--but I have inquired for my non status wife).

Ahh gotcha - as you can imagine being a no-status HA flyer in the HA terminal in KOA is not fun to say the least

Perhaps.

If I'm booking a brand new award ticket right now, then my flight choices would be limited to current award availability. I get that.

But once I have an award ticket issued, if the airline starts changing their schedule, which affects me, my belief is they should be able to use any flight at their resource to accommodate me.

If I bought a coach ticket, and now the only coach tickets available when I need to change my flight are 3x/4x as much, will I be told, "There are no flights available at the price you originally paid?"

Lastly, particularly with the interisland flights, the actual cost difference (again if paid) between the least expensive flights (what they are offering for award availability now) and the most expensive flights (what they are saying is unavailable) is only about $40. You'd think for just that little difference, they'd be a bit more accommodating.

And once again, UA WILL open up space and accommodate you on their metal. They do it all the time when changes to schedule are made. However, they CANNOT open space on another carrier. No other carrier will allow another airline to just go in and force award space on their metal. Just not reasonable.

I specifically addressed this in my post above:

You can have whatever partner award inventory is available now, or UA will generally open space on their own metal if you've been impacted by a schedule change. Or cancel for a full refund if it's a big change.
UA isn't paying HA the published ticket price for award flights; they've already negotiated a rate with the understanding that HA controls capacity.

I'm sorry but we don't live in a world of "shoulds." This is just the way award travel works: there will always be less flexibility compared to revenue tickets.

You can call and call again but I don't think anyone at UA will (or even can) accommodate your request.

$40 might not be significant to you but, considering airline margins, it is HUGE to HA, especially for such a short flight. There is a reason nice connections to HA are sometimes harder to get - HA can sell the tickets, sometimes for lucrative margins. HA makes award seats available when they have less chance of selling them. What you think should happen doesn't fit in the reality of airline seat allocations/pricing. HA determines award seat availability on HA, NOT United.
