Like would you receive miles if you book someone else's ticket for them? No, you have to fly the ticket to receive the benefits.

There is also no longer inherited status for award bookings.

If you join the United.com Club, you get $5 towards your travel bank every time you book a ticket while logged in, including for someone else.

There is a $25 fee to join the program however.

But the ticket has to be booked using the US site, so will probably be not very useful for the OP.

If you're on the same flight, you can "gift" him an E+ seat.

If you sign up for Ebates, you'll earn $10 the first time you make a purchase and a 2% rebate on all purchases made through Orbitz.

Joining is free. I've been a member for years and always get paid out the quarterly rebates punctually.

If you decide to join, let me know and I will PM you a referral link.

What you are proposing is to become a TA. Why not check on what that involves in Singapore and determine whether it is worthwhile for you.

Don't forget that for every person you help, when something goes wrong, they are going to blame you, even when it is not your fault !

I do this often, and the biggest benefit is that I earn a lot of award miles since I charge everything to my credit card, and that it makes it a lot easier to hit minimum spends if you even sometimes signup for credit cards for the signup bonus.
