Mainline service returns to MKE

I have not seen this posted elsewhere, but United is finally putting mainline aircraft back in the Milwaukee (MKE) market ^^^

Starting 9/7/16, MKE-DEN will be converted from 4x daily CRJ to 2x daily A319. Glad to actually see this happen as this route was torture on the CRJ-200.

Also, beginning 10/18/16 the early afternoon ORD-MKE flight will be up-gauged to a 737-700.

I think it has been 15 years since United last operated mainline planes in MKE.

Nice to hear! I have avoided the DEN-MKE segments on CRJ-200's and instead chose to connect in ORD, even last week!

You have also cut your travel options in half.

Or went from not optional to something realistic. 2.5 hrs in a CRJ is murder on my back, so a mainline option, even if limited to two flights/day, is a huge improvement im my book.

My personal pretty-please request would be a SFO-MKE nonstop. Right now I'm forced to take WN.

Great news. I am pretty sure they used a 752 MKE-ORD for a spell.

Hopefully they can support mainline to all domestic hubs (besides Guam)

They made that change about a month ago.

They also operated a one off KEWR-KMKE B738 last month, and it's not a typical charter flight number.

MKE-IAH on an E145 isn't exactly enjoyable either.

Is this UA's shortest mainline route?

Isn't it even the shortest route United flies (both mainline and regional jets)?

Glad to hear about the up-gauge. True, that it does cut options in half. But I usually take this flight once or twice a year and it sure is brutal.

(Though, the up-gauge is one month after I'm booked on my next DEN-MKE trip )

GUM-ROP (Guam - Rota) is shorter at 56 miles (compared to 67 for ORD-MKE) according to Great Circle mapper.

*But I believe GUM-ROP is operated on a turboprop, so you may escape on a technicality.

Yep... when the Cape Air ATRs break (as they tend to, sometimes for days) UA has no choice but to bring in a 737 to ROP to clear the backlog.
