UA IT fail, followed by classic "blame the customer" for UA screw-up.

United 1K
I am a UA 1K, have been for a few years. I wast just booking a one way from SJO to STL for the same day and UA is charging me for economy plus and premier access boarding. When did this happen? Of course I did not buy ticket, went ahead and booked on AA, less money and all the perks of Exec Plat.

Sounds like you were "half logged in." The Website remembers your name, but you are NOT logged in. Close your browser, and start over, ensuring you enter your password. You're not alone experiencing this -- it happens a lot and talked about here on FT frequently.

I thought so too, so I logged out, and logged back in, not a problem, my account was showing, still trying to charge me for E+ seating and Premier Access......so I bought the tkt on AA. I did call the 1K desk and reported the issue, they said they where going to look into it.

Happened to me. I wrote to MP and they refunded the E+ charges for myself and Mrs. Mikel51. A bit of a hassle, but not really that big a deal. I didn't notice the charge until after purchasing the ticket, but it never occurred to me that they would refuse to refund the mistaken charge.

I just changed my Friday award itinerary which reroutes me to SFO-SEA (XN fare by UA) and SEA-TPE (Business by BR), when I tried to change better E+ seat from default standard economy seat, United.com requested me to pay $59, I thought it should be free for 1K right?

Yes, it should be free if the traveler is a 1K. Call if the website does not work.

Log out, close all browser windows, and see if the problem clears.
