It's possible, due to the ease of the transfer bus, but it is certainly a risky connection and not one I would do in 90 minutes on separate tickets.

For starters, it’s not a connection. @:-)

To be clear, since several people have now made the same comment, it is a connection. The technicality of whether it's a single ticket or not doesn't change the simple definition of that word.

If you wish to be pedantic and say it's a connection with separate tickets, fine. But since the OP has already said he is contemplating buying a no penalty ticket for the LHR-ATH leg, that seems moot, no?

Looking at an SFO-LHR-LIS flight in mid April with a 65 minutes connection.

Do-able or risky?

Yes UA nonstop from SFO, not sure of the terminal for LHR-LIS. It would be TAP.

UA901 arriving at 6:55, TP1351 departing at 8:00.

I would imagine there must be other TP flights for LHR-LIS? But they're not showing up on UA's site.

And I'm looking to buy a sale J fare, which isn't available on all flights for this route on the particular days I'm looking at.

Do able but tight, so don’t dawdle - and hope your inbound isn’t late.

If all one ticket then must meet the MCT so I would book it. If the arriving flight to LHR is late then United will need to rebook you onto the next flight to LIS.

If separate tickets I would not do it but that is because more often than not my flights to LHR are delayed. I allow a few hours as United has no obligation to rebook if separate tickets.

As to immigration (customs is a breeze) if you have an ePassport and are a US citizen then you can now use the eGates.

I don't think you need to go through that since you are connecting to an international flight and the UK is not part of Schengen. But there may be a security check.

Assuming separate PNRs, there is not a chance I would risk 65 minutes. TAP goes from T2 at LHR so you are in the right place on landing. There are other flights throughout the day so you should have a better choice than just the one you mention.

No. Totally different. Mobile Passport is US only. Biometric passports/epassports, has a symbol that looks like: ---O--- on the front. It has an electronic chip in it. And if it is the same PNR then it looks like there are plenty of other flights if you miss that one.

Hmm, the DHS page on ePassport doesn't say how to get one?
