EWR-CHS equipment upgrade??

So I fly often between EWR and CHS, always on the horrific EMB145. Yes, its a short flight and my EWR-MSP flights have thankfully upgraded the equipment in the last year...but I'm left flying this piece of trash several times a month.

Anyway, earlier this week we were delayed in CHS and one of the crew members told me that UA was going to upgrade the equipment on this route likely to the 170's soon. He said they were going to lose some of their routes to another UA express airline that operates them. I was initially giddy over this news, but I've not seen one thing about it and I am skeptical. UA does fill these planes pretty well, so if they kept similar schedules I imagine they'd do ok.

Was this guy just blowing smoke, or is there any truth here?

This is winter, filling planes is hit/miss, but come spring break until labor day, they are friggin packed.

CHS-EWR and CHS-IAH are all 135/145 and it sucks. After the debates here Rep, followed 2 days later by Dem, we got a 737 to EWR, but I wasn't sure if it was debate driven or someone screwed up in the storm.

So nothing on the schedule, other than the occasional and infrequent 737? There used to be consistent Saturday service on a mainline jet, but haven't seen that in years even with how much CHS is blowing up in size recently.

I suggest they take the Dreamliners they're building a mile from the airport and test run them up and down the coast.

I don't see it in the schedule yet for EWR.

You could connect at IAD, which has a number of CR7 flights to CHS.

I flew IAD-CHS both in December and Jan and was pleasantly surprised to have a CR7 on all 4 legs.

That 737 was a single day - haven't seen another since

Dreamliners are the best part of coming to the airport and seeing all the different livery's painted and Boeing lights them up daytime style at night, so you can see them on landing very clearly.

We are exploding in size, we just completed the last 5 gates - up to 15 gates and 3 baggage carousels. You can't stand between the 2 and get bags from whichever one moves, you have to walk an extra 20ft sometimes.

It is horrible to live here though. You don't want to move, taxes are horrid, gas is expensive, we are rude and sweet tea makes you fat. You can come visit for a weekend, leave your money, but we are full.

Thanks,
The management

Ha! I've had business in CHS since '89 and own a home on IOP. It took them long enough with the airport, but its now beautiful and modern by the gates, its the best TSA pre check line in the country, and that line of Dreamliners almost causes me to crash every time I drive by on the way to 526. Such clean beauty in those virgin planes.

Count me as one of those who is not thrilled with the explosion in Charleston, other than the hope of larger jets. The above post does have me interested, though! Be nice to fly out of C concourse in EWR, too!

I am glad there is at least some regularity to it....seems like last flight and probably first flight out kinda thing

That is how Delta started, mostly CRJ and one or 2 MD-88/90 a day then we eventually got all MD88/90 - now they are stuck with leftover AirTran 717 LOL

Buy a copy of the schedule from OAG or Innovata and import it into a database.

Or work for a company that does that.

Neither of those companies looked particularly consumer friendly, although, they are probably not directed at consumers either.

Innovata had zero pricing data - which scares me
OAG listed 180, but didn't mention if that was monthly, yearly, one time fee etc

Be thankful - we're still E145's EWR-SAV (HHH? hasn't existed on the schedule for 5 years). Oddly enough, they fly 170's IAD-SAV, which is nearly an hour less in flight.
