Given that RSA was this week in SF, this is not surprising.

I guess that explains the Group 2 lines yesterday . . . must have been 100+ pax in Group 2 for SFO-ORD on the HD 772 and SFO-EWR on the 77W. Lines stretched all the way to the next gate (e.g., 80=>82).

yeah, my SFO-BOS flight has all seats sold and a huge UG list. Flight was F0 for the past several weeks ... got lucky to book it when they were still selling Z fares

The other week, on DFW-SFO, there were 50 people on the list, including upgraded people. This was on a E175 where the capacity is 76..

I moved from Boston to the Philly area two years ago and now fly out of EWR. Even after dropping from 1K to Plat, my upgrades clear more frequently now than they did back then.

Yup, I was one of them. The list closed at 142 waiting for upgrades and 5 cleared. This was gate 82 today. They were also flying a 772 to Boston this morning from gate 80.

No, the UACO saying is: "If you're not happy, just wait...". Or was that just SMI, J?

as a Gold with fare basis U, how did I end up as #102 on the upgrade standby list?

I am very confused. I knew my chances of getting upgraded was 0.000%, but it still boggles my imagination when I saw my name in the #102 spot on the upgrade standby list.

I have gold status and my ticket's fare basis is U(which is flexible fare).

Is UA just giving out elite status like free mints at the DMV?

Depending on your routing, this isn't necessarily too uncommon (e.g., hub to hub)

what was/is your city pair and date? Could be tons of Premiers, weather-displaced passengers, etc. I was on a LAS-SFO flight once with like 80 people on waitlist, which I though was almost impossible for the route on a Thursday. Turned out a tech conference had just ended. Bunch of 1Ks were in back.

If you were #102, maybe you're one of the people with free mints?

There were 108 people on the waitlist for SFO-ORD today (UA624), on top of 8 already upgraded

The flight ended up being switched from a 28 seat 777 to the new Polaris 60 seater, no doubt making the top 32 waitlisted happy.

Sadly I had to switch off the flight, as it was delayed 4 hours, so I guess make that 33 waitlisters happy
