Post UA812 5 Jan '16 (737) Slides off Runway at GEG ; all pax ok

I'm surprised I'm the first to post about this. Trying to figure out the flight number, but the 6am GEG-DEN flight slid off the runway as it was taxiing for take off. All aboard are ok, pax were taken off and returned to the terminal for rebooking. Airfield was opened at 8:45am, per airport's twitter, but plane is still stuck.

Snow and ice just doesn't play nice with aviation. As a pilot, the vast majority of situations which elevated my heart rate seem to occur during winter ops.

This situation in GEG looks doesn't really look like a big deal, but definitely an inconvenience.

Per the USA Today story, it seems like a situation where that part of the taxiway may have frozen unexpectedly due to freezing rain.

Not much unlike driving in an icy parking lot - a low speed turn can end up as an uncontrollable low speed straight line slide with little warning.

Crap - I'm usually on that flight but decided to stay home an extra week!

Temps have risen here so some of our snow has melted but still around the freezing levels. Glad all were ok - but I can imagine the cluster with only 2 flights daily from GEG.

So other than towing the plane back, what typically needs to be done in this situation to get the plane back in service in terms of checks.

Assuming this was the flight in question that got to Denver a tad late.

Which was done on a different aircraft flown in from DEN.
