UA180 HKG - EWR Delayed Aug 4

Guys,
Really curious to see what's going on here. UA 180 tomorrow from HKG TO EWR is delayed by 4 hours. I got an email 3 days ago (just around the time of the typhoon) that the flight will be delayed. The incoming flight from EWR is arriving today on time. So why is this flight delayed by 4 hours? Looks like its a standard turnaround. Right? Also, the airport is clearing up from the backlog...so wondering what's the issue.

Thought I'd ask the experts.

Thanks

It's a flight crew availability delay, so likely related to giving the crew their minimum rest period between whenever it is that they fly in.

UA 84 on August 4th is using the same aircraft as UA 180, Does that mean that UA 84 will also be delayed Due to late arrival of inbound aircraft ? (UA 84 is scheduled to depart at 4:45pm the delayed flight from HKG UA #180 says is arriving at 5:30 pm)??

Thanks

Maybe. Or an aircraft swap will be effected between now and then. Still some 30ish hours for things to change there.

1434 IAH-RTB and 1410 IAH-BZE, plus today's return flights to IAH, canceled for severe weather (impending hurricane)

SFO-HKG on 4 Aug was on time until 90 minutes before departure. Plane had landed from LHR last night. Then the flight was delayed due to late inbound aircraft arrival from LHR (yet its arrival is on schedule), was that a plane swap? Now the reason for the delay changed to severe weather conditions in the route network. Not a big delay (85 minutes) but still frustrating and odds are, the delay will be longer than projected. United, get your act together.

Now a 4th reason, low clouds and air traffic control, while the pilots tell us its from the late arrival of an aircraft and length for refueling. All but 1 or 2 reasons are lies. Glad I'm moving more to AA, it can't happen fast enough.

AA isnt exactly a bastion of reliability, though.

It looks like SFO is having a bad day for weather. Delays left and right for everyone. So weather appears to be the right reason.

I'll advise you that AA has worse operational performance and doesn't tell you things like delay reason or where the plane is coming from. Maybe you would rather not get any info instead of erroneous info from time to time.

True, but when your AA flight is delayed for 4 hours due to MX issues, you get a note shortly after arrival apologizing for the delay and informing you that an appropriate number of miles have already been deposited in your Advantage account. When your UA flight is canceled, you get an email within hours apologizing for the inconvenience and a link to a website where you can pick your compensation. Only the link doesn't work, because by then you've been rebooked on another flight, and the web site won't let you enter your cancelled flight number.

I was eventually taken care of by a nice CSR, but these days it seems like UA makes things harder than they need to be.
