UA 862 HKG-SFO cancelled on 7/22 not 7/21.

My guess is it probably will ferry back on July 24.

Speaking of 789, my friend was flying UA 1459 IAH-SFO on 7/21 and it was downgauged from a 789 to a 763. Wondering if another 789 went mech in IAH.

7/21 UA 901 SFO-LHR (N181UA) departed at 1740, 4 hours 50 minutes late and estimated to arrive at 1137, 4 hours 27 minutes late due to aircraft maintenance.

UA 988 with about 8hrs delay. As the plane just left Chicago and you don't turnaround a 777 in 20minutes I assume it will be more when it leaves Frankfurt

I was on that flight, and understand mechanical issues and crew timing out, but the flight was late leaving PVG that caused me, and many others to miss their connecting flights (we got to know each pther ar PVG while we waited for the buses to take us to the hotel (and the busses lost their way getting to the hotel - complete cluster @$&!). Replacement flight came into T4 and there were no UA reps there to assist passangers, we all had to schlep our luggage from T4 to T7 as the baggage handlers refused to take the bags as too close for the connections. My new layover would have been 10 hours so they switched me to AA which was a four hour layover but AA wanted to charge additional for checked luggage so getting a car for same price as AA wanted for the checked luggage (and am assuming AA keeps the flight revenue even though I did not fly). I am used to cancellations with UA. Two flights last year, and this one was the best in terms of moving the manifest for the seating to the replacement flight, but they need to improve the connecting flights for the replacement flights. Same thing happened on the cancelled flight in December (SFO-FRA), replacement flight was delayed so missed the connection.

I had been very impressed with the improvements with UA, but they totally dropped the ball with the late departure of replacement flight and missed connections (that they had rebooked passengers on).

If it's 1 am on 7/21, set your computer to Midway Island time where it would still be 10pm on 7/20. The option to book rooms for 7/20-7/21 should re appear.

837 SFO-NRT on 23rd went MX and shows 7 hours delay and counting, and my 838 on 24th was delayed as well...

Check out UA 895 today. Still hasn't left ORD. I've seen "operational difficulties " followed by "late incoming crew" followed by "weather". I suppose all three could have happened.

Messing up the HKG SIN leg by over 5 hours tonight and will start to mess with the departing UA 896 at 6 am flight on the 25th (and ultimately the return to Ord). Snowball.

In Hong Kong today, Sunday 7/24.

UA 180 - HKG-EWR - Redirected to SFO. The flight just recently left HKG. Not sure why it will stop in SFO (crew rest?, refueling?). Schedule to arrive in SFO @ 7:59 am, and then depart to EWR @ 8:35 (a 36 minute stopover)?

UA 862 - HKG-SFO - Returned to terminal (Maintenance). New flight time is 1:38 (2 hours and 8 minutes).

I think they tried to do a frame swap from N117UA to N177UA. My gut feeling is they had to recrew and then something happened to N177UA again (see earlier this week).

7/24 UA 862 HKG-SFO (N120UA)...actually was an air to gate return. They departed then had to dump fuel. There apparently is a "gear" issue. No way they will leave at 1338 as it takes at least 45 minutes to refuel from what I have been told on previous occasions.

As for UA 180 HKG-EWR, it is possible that one of the co-pilots is sick so they departed HKG with 3 which means they will need to recrew it in SFO as they can't go HKG-EWR with 3.

Update...7/24 UA 862 HKG-SFO cancelled due to aircraft maintenance.

That will now be my equipment HKG-SFO tomorrow (7/25), apparently. Was to be the 747 currently inbound SFO-HKG (UA869). Goody. Other will go out tomorrow as UA2083.
