Currently on UA 221 a 738 flying IAD-ORD. We pushed back two minutes early then held by the runway for 20 minutes. We then returned to the gate and one of the pilots informed us our long taxi meant we used too much fuel.

However, UAL.com says it was a "security screening disruption". We've been here another half hour with no further updates.

First time I've ever seen that reason and as an aside, the SFPD code "221" is for a person with a gun

Was on the LAX-MEL UA98 on 7/11. Departed eventually 1,5 hours late.
First there was a 30 minute delay for a maintenance issue .
When that was fixed after 30 minutes, captain then announced that the luggage for the sydney flight was loaded on our flight (both planes where next to each other). Took another 30 minutes to sort out.
So after 1 hour we were ready for push back but then captain annkunced that the tug would not start. They had to find another one which took about another 30 minutes.
So three different kind of delays on one flight.

Yet another bad day for TATL:

UA27 7/12 EWR-BHX 752 delayed 1 hour due to aircraft maintenance
UA26 7/13 BHX-EWR 752 cancelled due to aircraft maintenance

UA127 7/13 IAD-DUB 752 cancelled due to aircraft maintenance

UA110 7/12 EWR-LHR 763 delayed 2h30min due to aircraft maintenance
UA941 7/13 LHR-EWR 763 cancelled due to aircraft maintenance

So it seems like UA has two 752s and a 763 stuck in the British Isles.

Also incidentally the 763 (N666UA) that operated UA110/went mx in LHR was also the one that caused the cancellations of UA110/922 on Monday/Tuesday — might want to stay away from that frame.

And now that frame, N642UA, flying EDI - ORD as UA2081 squawked 7700 and diverted back to EDI.

UA 927 PAX moved to new flight UA 2082 scheduled for 3pm departure today, now delayed 2 hours 25 minutes. My wife was in business class traveling with disability assistance (she's on crutches) and UA's handling of overnight accommodations was appalling. She had to share a room with another PAX as the hotel they sent people to had insufficient rooms for those sent there. Only one meal was available in the evening which she shared with other PAX. In the morning there was no food available for breakfast. Ground transfers to the hotel were taking so long she took a taxi both ways (she has to elevate her leg frequently).

Compensation offered was 17,500 miles (plus I imagine a successful EU261 claim).

If you accept the offered compensation, does that absolve UA from honoring EU261?

Not knowing the answer to that, I would try to iron out EU261 comp, then go in and accept the miles.

Sounds like a breach of duty of care as well as a flight cancellation claim.

Often flight rescheduled for next day are delayed once more. Just, wondering why this is the case. Is the posted dept time set intentionally earlier to ensure all folks are back at the airport from emergency accommodations/transportation etc.?

Edit: Actually today's (7/13) UA 927 is cxld as well; so it appears UA 2082 was held to accommodate those folks.

Anyone have details on UA929 (N642UA) B767-300 that went mx yesterday just after departing LHR, diverting to EDI, cancelling.... then UA 2081 today (make-up leg) took off and immediately diverted back to EDI.... what happened here? That tail shows no further planned trips. Hopefully most pax found their way onto the regularly scheduled EDI-ORD flight and got out of there.

Pretty sure 2081 was ferrying the plane back, not carrying pax as they'd all be reaccomodated. 929 diverted for "fuel issues", 2081 turned back for same reason.

Today's UA 135 ZRH-EWR got hit with a 3h07 delay. As in most cases the inbound a/c - this time UA 52 from IAD - was late.
Tough week for UA folks at ZRH.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see a few more delayed or even cancelled flights out of ORD. The weather is a mess right now.

EDIT- After scanning the flightaware cancelled list, no intl flights out of ORD were cancelled but I'm sure some were delayed a couple hours.
