UA 5677 ORD-DFW, 5/27/16
E175, seat 3C/D
PDBs offered
Soon after takeoff, more drinks and nuts served. (cold)
Choice of:
Chicken Sandwich with Couscous Salad
Pineapple Salad with Chicken, served with Fruit
Both came with a packaged cookie.
Strangely, the FA took the orders of row 4, then went back to Row 1, so we were last to order. When she got to us, we were told all she had left was the Pineapple Salad. Luckily the salad was fine with both of us.
On our return flight 5/30, menu was the same. This time my son got the Chicken Sandwich -- lots of bread with a little chicken. His comment was the salad was the better choice.

A couple meals to catch up on...
May 27th - UA251: IAD-PDX (dinner)
Flying on a 739, I was worried it was going to be dark and boring. Fortunately, it was one with DTV, so all was good.
Already on my 3rd or 4th IPA by this picture (including drinks on the EWR-IAD hop down and at the UC). I have noticed that some of the catering now includes pumpkin seeds in the nut mix, which is a nice change. More of those and less cashews, please!
Salad and a roll to start. I do wish they'd stop with the lemon-based salad dressings, which are always a bit too tart for my liking. The salad was alright, though, and the bread was warm.
My wife's chicken tamale - definitely the better choice. Lots of flavor here.
I went with the butternut squash ravioli - the slight sweetness of the squash doesn't really work in ravioli format, IMO. Sauce was nice and tomato-y, though.
Sundae to finish - these were handed out pre-made, so I had to endure the lake of chocolate syrup
May 30th: UA830 - PDX-DEN (lunch)
My wife and I got the two last CPUs on the flight, so this was a nice surprise - and a pretty hearty lunch for a 2-hour jaunt over the mountains.
Obligatory beer/nuts (beer nut?) shot. Note the PDB tucked into the seatback
Choice was an Asian beef salad or the enchilada. The former sounded good, but my wife (who was sitting a couple rows ahead) said it wasn't that great. This was pretty good, though - liked the flavoring of the sauce, and I really appreciated the avocado slice and the pico de gallo that was served on the side. The enchilada could have used more chicken, but it was plenty cheesy. I do wish there was more rice, though!
The cookie was slightly undercooked - extremely gloppy and fell apart once I was halfway done chowing it down.

The "lemon" salad dressing is corn syrup garbage. On PS flight LAX-EWR the other day, they served a very good salad dressing that was actual real balsamic vinegar and olive oil in a little tiny single-serve square plastic bottle.

EWR-IAH, 05/23/16
B737-800, Breakfast
PDB of choice, choice of omelet or oatmeal, frequent drink refills.
Note: I brought the green tea onboard from the UA Club at EWR. Only black tea was available onboard so I just requested hot water.
IAH-PVR, 05/23/16
A320, Lunch
PDB of choice, warm nuts and beverage service, choice of short ribs with potatoes or shrimp and cheesy grits, and warm cookie. Frequent drink refills for the vacation crowd.
I haven't flown in F since last year but I must say the food was actually pretty decent on both flights, an improvement over the past few years. Both flights had excellent crew who were very attentive.

B737-900, Lunch
No IFE on this 4 hour 45 minute flight was somewhat of a disappointment, so I made up for it by having 5 drinks and passing out
Crew seemed a little stressed at first but once the meal service began they changed their tune and actually ended up being an excellent crew. PBD of choice, warm nuts with beverage service, choice of salmon with rice or chicken with rice, warm cookie for dessert served immediately after meal. I would have enjoyed and appreciated a pre-arrival snack basket on this longer flight, but overall a great crew and halfway decent options.

The eastbound salad looks revolting.. do I spy iceberg lettuce and beefsteak tomatoes? Rest looks good - great photos! You faked me out with the obvious green tea though

To be honest, the PVR-EWR salad was way better than the spinach salad on the IAH-PVR leg. I was wondering if the salad was catered in PVR (as opposed to EWR) because it seemed really fresh and the oil and vinegar was a nice change from the heavy cream based dressing. The IAH-PVR salad had about 6 spinach leaves and the thick honey dijon dressing unfortunately did not mix well with it.

6PM Departure | 737-900 (Dark) | Seat 2A | DEN - LAX | First Class Dinner Flight
- PDB
- Warm Towels (Real Full Size Terry Cloth Towels)
- Beverage and Mixed Nuts (room temp)
- Meal Tray, Choice Of Seafood Stew or Tandoori Chicken
- x2 Drink With The Meals
- Dessert (Baked Onboard Cookies)
- Coffee / Tea Offered
The nut situation... What is the deal here, less cashews and almonds and more flavorless crunchy fillers (soybeans?). Not a fan of that.
Extremely proactive refill environment by the FC FA, but also the purser working both cabins. I asked if the Moscow Mule sugar bomb was loaded. Negative upon first inspection, but after scouring the cart the FA came back later with glass. With my vodka cranberry already in place, I ended up double fisting through dinner.
I offered to take either meal, but did end up with my first choice the seafood stew. The stew was fine, if not slightly overcooked, but I noticed my seat mate had a larger portion. The salad has been upgraded I see, but the lemon vinaigrette is gross.
I'm glad to see the food offerings are more varied and the quality better. I miss the tablecloth, and the plating remains lackluster. I feel like I am eating on plateware from a hospital. DL continues to offer a more upgraded dining experience.

May 30
LAX-IAH
UA1203
Lunch, 1:44 pm scheduled (actual ~5pm)
As usual, open bar PDBs were offered. Went with a bourbon and coke. I was impressed with the FA and the crew in general because they managed a tight turn of ~45 mins trying to recover from a cascade of delays on the IAH-LAX route that day.
Service started with drinks and mixed nuts. I think they left the nuts in the warmer too long because the nuts were very chewy/mushy. I didn’t eat many of them. Dinner choices were the hot cilantro chicken sandwich, or cold chicken salad. I went for the hot sandwich and it was delicious. Good taste, a nice amount of chicken, and pretty filling. I liked the salad too.
Not sure if cookies were offered since I fell asleep after the meal and didn't wake up until Houston.

The plating of those mains is not appealing at all, especially the short ribs swimming in that pool of gravy or sauce or whatever it is.
