Global Services name origin

So how did United originally come up with the Global Services name? I've always been curious as to what the meaning behind it is. It's kind of fitting now that United's logo is a Globe that the highest premium cabin and highest elite status all have the Globe theme in them.

It was introduced many years before the merger with Continental and I guess it just sounded really good to someone.
