Games on touch screen IFE

I was on UA B757 aircraft playing games on IFE but no controller in armrest only touch screen.
I was playing very softly and gently as I was minding the passenger in front of me but few minutes later the guy in front of me asks me to stop touching his seat!
I did apologize and told him I was playing game and he told me it's not there to play for if seated in Y cabin! Only F class passengers who got TV from armrest can play the game!
Has anyone experience what I had gone through?

Next time you'll know better.

Safe travels,

Yeah tough call but I would not play the game in these cases. I just don't want to stir trouble or conversations like this on an flight.

Can't expect IFE is even there if you fly United Economy.

You could call the FA for an solution but I doubt it would go in your favor.

That is not true; that passenger was making things up in order to get you to do what he wanted. It worked.

Whether you should keep using a feature of your seat after being told it's bothering someone else is a classic ethical question. Like, if you're in the window seat and you're asked to draw the windowshade, but you wanted to look outside and admire the view, should you comply? Or like, who owns the armrest? Or, should you be allowed to recline your seat before takeoff? Deep stuff.

Yes, for sure. This sort of thing happens to lots of people on flights, in some form. Don't feel bad — you didn't do anything wrong, and it sounds like you genuinely cared about the other person's happiness and tried to make his trip more comfortable, which I think is admirable.

Just about everyone has a story like this from a flight. If you're ever at a party and hate the people there, ask one of these ethical questions. I guarantee that *everyone* will chime in, everyone has an opinion about air travel etiquette and loves to share it. Then you can leave, having successfully derailed whatever conversation was going on and killed the party.

Certainly on the 777s, many of the touchscreens barely work, meaning that people jab the screen / seatback simply to select a movie. Very understandable and very irritating at the same time.

I look at it this way: how would I feel the person behind me doing the same thing with his screen? Well, that would irritate the hell of it. So I would never play game on the touch screen in Y.

Which UA long haul aircraft have no IFE?

Sure there are the occasional screens that don't work. But I'm pretty sure all long haul flights have some sort of personal IFE, even if some better than others. The 747s you need your own device for personal IFE, but there is still main screen. The PMUA 767s I think still have looping in Y, so definitely not AVOD, but still personal IFE.

I think the only aircraft without any IFE whatsoever are some of the newer, dark 737s, but everything else has something.

Yes there's IFE but when I fly United Economy I just imagine there isn't one.

I'm not sure why you would imagine there is none when there always is, or why it would lead you to say you can't expect it when in fact, you can.

Haven't flown United Economy (744s, 772s) for many many years.
My memory is still of the 744's that didn't have IFE so I am an bit outdated yes.

However when I do fly United, I seem to always have issues with either the seat or IFE (mainly J). It's to the point I would just give up. So that's where I "imagine there isn't any".

I tried playing a game on it once. I quickly gave up given how hard I had to poke the screen in order to get it to register a touch--I realized the passenger in front wouldn't like it.

The calibration is always way too off to be used properly..
