Are TODs / Cash upgrades offered?
Yes, $298 cash OW upgrades are regularly offered.

In AA's configuration, the Diamond is an exceptionally comfortable seat, really great if you're traveling as a couple.
I guess I'll have to try it sometime. I've not flown AA, but I have flown the Diamond seat on other carriers and found it basically the same. But I also don't notice a real difference even across UA on the various frames it used to be on (75/76/77/78).

I agree UA soft product is abysmal at the moment and the 752s are on the dingy side.

The tight footwell is not an issue in AA's configuration. Amazing what a few extra inches does for that seat.

It is unfortunate ... because I simply can't blame that on the age of the frames. I'll use the 763's as a counterpoint; very similar age, very similar aircraft, very clean and modern interior.

If planning were possible (of course it wasn't) - those 752's could've been really dressed up nicely during the pandemic and would feel new and light again.

Heck, just changing out the older incandescent and fluorescent lights for LEDs - with new un-yellowed lenses - would make a tremendous difference. Here's a good example from the fine folks at La Compagnie:

Looking at booking EWR-SFO in May and seems like the 2-4-2 version of these has made a return. Previously was mostly 1-2-1 configuration 777s. Any reasoning behind the change, or any ideas if it's permanent? Seems like a huge downgrade with 752s being the only other option.

With international opening up even more, the nicer international birds are returning to their normal routes. UA does plan on replacing the 752s with A321's once they are delivered.

This is unfortunately the case after May 4th, however the 787-10s are scheduled to be on this route starting June 2nd (if that goes ahead!)

Politely: You cannot count on the same aircraft performing the flight in June. It's far enough off that UA will be sending it on its highest value route, and if they need to they will swap even a 739 for that flight, although you should hope for a 752 or the 77? (can't remember the designation) with the 8-across lie flats that were once state of the art)

UA P.S. Flights going back to 757-200 and old 777 in May

Currently, United Flies 777's with the real Polaris hard product on transcontinental routes. It seems that beginning in May, the planes on these routes will transition to solely 757-200's and old 777's (2-4-2 config), with the occasional one flight a day equipped with full Polaris. Does anyone know if this is actually happening, or if these are just placeholder seat maps since it is so far in advance? Seems like this might actually be happening, since international travel is opening up more, and thus higher demand for Polaris equipped 777's on international routes.

If they have enough INTL traffic to soak up the entire true Polaris fleet that would be great!

And pretty grim for ps

That's unfortunate. At least the 752s have lie flat in J, even if the hard product is old.

752 (757-200) deployment has been normal on this route, and would not be considered as changes. Pick any date, and you will see them, especially the first flight of the day, last flight of the day, and mid-day flight, basically time of the day with smaller traffic.

772 domestic configuration (2-4-2), yes, that would be a change.

It is understood the 752 replacement, A321neo and/or (737 MAX10) will be lie-flat also.

With China and Hong Kong flights resuming and increase flights to the EU/UK during the summer, there is a greater demand for widebodies on international routes.

Hope UA can expedite the 746 Polaris configuration.
