SFO only or System wide Problem at check-in?

I just dropped my wife at SFO and she reported that there seemed to be a system wide problem. None of the Kiosks were working and the United people were writing up luggage tickets by hand. She was told it was a system wide problem when she got an agent but they weren't telling anyone in line what was up.

P.S. Not a big fan of the new kiosk/checkin layout either.

First time I might be happy to be flying on a RJ...

Though I am sure something else (i.e., traffic) will still prevent a reasonable arrival into ORD this afternoon.

I'm scheduled to fly a EMB 145 later at 3.30 PM SAT-IAH today. Should I drive instead?

Why? Stuff goes down. Sure you can architect around potential outages, but the IT folks are probably doing the best they can with the resources and direction they have.

The problem lies with the management and senior leadership not fighting or getting the resources they need, and not developing a clean, manageable architecture to prevent these sorts of things from happening.

Recall the pmUA IT chief said he was being setup to fail if he had to keep SHARES. He lost his job over it. And frankly, he made the right decision.

The new UA CIO started only a few months ago. So hopefully she can use this as an example to fund a solid infrastructure and vision.

Wow, great listening to WGN right now, they are just hassling United that they have lacked any communications and how that is just poor leadership....go figure. UA hasn't been doing too hot in the media lately.

Systems appear to be running again, I think you'll be fine since it's so late in the day. Just keep tabs on the situation.

Thanks for the info. I can't believe this is the only time I've ever been relieved to be on a regional.

I suspected it could be a big delay when United Club reservations and computers were down at 4:45am PDT at LAX. Now ticketing and out 6:00am flight to SFO is now scheduled for 7:30am.

Boarding!
