Chasing 1K Status for 2016

I need advice on how to best way to chase 1k status for 2016.

I am 1K for 2015 . Based on my current booking for 2015 my PQM 114K, PQD $9.8K, PQS 94.

I will be short $2.1k in PQD.

Is it worth to do achieve $12k PQD and 1k.

Thanks for your opinions /views/ advice

The simplest answer is, how valuable are 6 GPUs to you? Are they worth $2.1k to you? Were you able to use your 6 this year?

can you predict all your travel needs till 12/31/15 yet? Sounds like an early call on whether you make it or not.
Extra GPUs as mentioned but also extra 2 miles per $ for 2016 (assume $10k spent that is 20k miles extra).

Also 4 RPUS. As 2.1k easily will earn 22K in PQMs...and if OP flies on an MR or two...36K is not out of the realm..thus another 2 GPUs.

All that plus the intangibles makes it worth the spend.

I agree with this and all the other comments - here's a thought, maybe consider upfaring one of your longer segments (intl BF, perhaps?) to make the PQD and also achieve other bonuses depending upon what you book into. Possibly save one of your GPUs that way as well.

You're going to have to determine what 1K value is to you....personally, would I chase it, no.

Though I can get 2x more miles per $, that wouldn't justify $2k more of spend for me.

GPUs are worthless to me....I'm 0 for 6 this year on using them.
RPUs have been just as hopeless, with being 1 for 10 on trying to use them.

I don't believe in a "1K" desk, and to me, the difference between Plat & 1K is minimal....no difference in IRROPs really, same boarding group, CPUs rate isn't the greatest, etc.

Since you are already 1K this is an easy question to answer and is one only you can answer. What incremental value do you attach to currently being a 1K and do you think it is worth $2.1K?

If the 6 GPUs and 4 RPUs are work $2K (I think they are, if you are able to use them), then upfare a couple of your later in the year trips into BF. One is probably sufficient to generate the needed PQM.

I disagree. I think RPU and GPU are loosing their value when they do HOD upgrades. I just lost one today when I was no 1 on the list w instrument and they sold or for $200 (I was offered but declined).

What amazes me is how little people can spend to achieve 100k PQM.

I have easily spent $30-40k this year to get to maybe 70k PQM. All domestic. Most within 5 days of travel, some within 48 hours.

Not everyone books that close in...while most of my travel is business, I book ~2-2.5 weeks out, and I'm typically in the STLK range. So I'll end up in the ~$13K range.

Of course, I also refuse to give UA any of my premium cabin fares, so that doesn't help.

Agreed.
I used to think GPUs were worth (to me) $1000/each. But being in SFO means my GPUs are clearing less and less. I was on a FRA-SFO flight Friday and all 52 BF seats were sold, not one person cleared from the upgrade list.

The other benefit is the higher earning rate of 1K vs. Platinum.

If you book TPAC, even W fares, even a few weeks out, you will easily end up over 100K PQM but $9K EQD.

Last year I thought 1K was worth enough to spend another $1000. Depends on how you value the GPUs. I regularly clear. I fly midweek, not from SFO. I'd do it. I won't make 1K this year. $12k too rich for me.

I have the same question..but will probably spend the $2K myself to get another year as 1K. As a 2MM I get Platinum status, so truly just the GPU as my reward. Looks pretty likely I'll get at least 5 of 6 to clear this year....so guess that's worth the extra bucks...
