United Express 5316 [MRY-LAX] landing gear collapses on landing [May, 11 2015]
(FOX 11) A United Express plane made a hard landing Monday morning at Los Angeles International Airport after a landing gear collapsed. SkyFOX captured the jetliner landing on LAX Runway 24 without the back left landing gear deployed. There were sparks but no fire. Link above includes video of landing and fire department response. |
Looks like a CRJ.
Anyone know the flight # and the UX carrier? |

The left wing of the United SkyWest regional jet scraped the ground on Runway 24 Left around 8:23 a.m. after its left landing gear failed to fully deploy, according the FAA. Officials said 43 passengers were on board the aircraft, which traveled from the City of Monterey. |

Flew that route a couple weeks ago, was a CRJ200 then. Doesn't sound pleasant...

I just spoke with one of my scientists who was on that flight...He said the crew handled the emergency calmly and efficiently....and the landing was not rough at all...a little noisy, maybe, but very normal. He indicated that the pilots kept the passengers in the loop and there was no "panic"...as a matter of fact, the exit from the aircraft was performed in a manner with less "urgency" than a normal arrival. Good job SkyWest!
FWIW, I have personally experienced two emergency landings flying SkyWest...a collapsed nosegear and a depressurization at altitude and both times the crew handled the situation professionally and calmly. While I detest regional flights, if I have to fly them, SkyWest is the regional that I am most comfortable with (safety wise that is!) |

Glad everyone is safe. "Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing." With that in mind, Google flight status shows as "Landed." I thought that was unintentionally humorous. A SkyWest CRJ-200 (CR2), operated on behalf of United Express, made an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) this morning after pilots reported issues with its landing gear. The plane landed without its left main gear extended on Runway 24L, and emergency vehicles immediately surrounded the stricken aircraft, which ended up with its left wing on the runway. The plane was operating as United Flight 5316 from Monterey, CA (MRY). No injuries were reported, and the 43 passengers were able to disembark and board buses to the terminal area. CR2s typically have a crew of 2 pilots and one flight attendant. The runway is currently closed, and LAX's official Twitter (@flyLAXairport) tweeted for passengers to check with their airline for up-to-date information about their flights. |

watching some of the videos on line i'm surprised to see how long it took them to get the door open. it also looked like the pilot or FO was the first one off, high tailing it for the tarmac. i was happy to see how little carry on baggage was hauled off the plane by the pax.
nice landing though, surprised to see how far it slid. i guess no thrust reversers on that type of landing :cool: |
