Went off the runway during landing from LAS according to local news. More pics here. Appears to have been UA 1545 tail N37471

A retired FA passenger on the flight was interviewed on a Las Vegas TV report a few minutes ago and reports something different. She says it was a very hard landing and used the term "Captain Kangaroo" to describe the plane bouncing after the landing.

A friend was on that flight and posted a short video of them de-planing, which was apparently done through the rear exit.

Ugh... Only days after the FAA's expression of concern. While completely random, not good timing at all for UA. Glad no one was hurt apparently.

Yet it arrived at the gate only 30 minutes late, very amazing!

considering that it only happens about 70% of the time under normal circumstances, i agree...

LOL at the "captain kangaroo" retired FA comment...

UA Flight from Las Vegas skids off Houston runway

HOUSTON (AP) -- Nobody has been hurt when a United Airlines jet carrying 173 people slipped off the taxiway after landing in Houston during rainy weather.

A United statement says Flight 1545 originated in Las Vegas and rolled into the grass after landing Monday morning at George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Airport spokesman Bill Begley says the plane landed normally but made a wide turn on the taxiway and the jet went into some muddy grass. The landing gear of the Boeing 737 appeared mired in the mud.

United says the jet carried 167 passengers and a six-person crew.

Reminds me of a very similar incident many years ago flying from IAH to Paris. I was in Business First and was surprised to see Gordon Bethune on board. Plane lands smoothly in Paris and then pilot takes a wide turn off the runway.....and gets stuck in the grass and mud. Eventually had to bring out stairs to deplane all of us. I felt for the pilots on that flight.

It's embarrassing, that's why.

If the next flight for this plane took off late, I'm sure they would have called it a weather delay. After all, if it hadn't rained and caused the ground to be soft...

I saw Gordon at IAH about two weeks ago. I used to see him at the dry cleaners in River Oaks pretty regularly when he was CEO of CO.

Back on topic, it was pretty overcast and dark this morning in Houston.

Sounds like maybe they went into the high-speed taxiway at too high of a speed? From the picture Seth shared they are a good 20+ ft off the edge, that doesn't seem to me to be just a wide turn.
