Thanks for your advice about checking the schedule closer to the date. I am also going to think about a refundable ticket, although the cost is so much higher. I may have to choose between a non-refundable first class ticket (which I know may be a gamble) or a flexible economy ticket.
While very poor value per mile, this may be time to use miles if you have them @:-)

$75 redeposit fee IIRC for non elite, but possibly better value than buying a fully refundable ticket. And It's only 10K miles for a short hop one way

Current 787 Domestic Routes

I know these have bounced around a lot -- does anybody have a resource for what the current (Jan/Feb 2015) domestic 787 routes are?

Thanks much!

Confirmation: I flew it IAH-DEN in December. The plane then continued on (without me, sadly) to NRT.

Sfo-lax 787?

Recently, there has been a 787 scheduled every Friday from SFO-LAX on the 787. Anyone know why? There isn't one on the return flight. UA also ran SFO-HNL on a 747 &SFO-ORD, are these just one time reposition flights or are there more this month? Thanks ^

Probably for aircraft positioning between the various international legs. There are more coming.

Code:
 flight | orig | dest | equip | departs | from | to | days
--------+------+------+-------+----------+------------+------------+---------
 UA1182 | SFO | LAX | 788 | 12:55:00 | 2015-04-03 | 2015-04-03 | F
 UA1635 | SFO | LAX | 788 | 12:50:00 | 2015-04-10 | 2015-05-01 | F
The only domestic 744 on the schedule is to RIV, maybe positioning for a (military?) charter:

Code:
 flight | orig | dest | equip | departs | from | to | days
--------+------+------+-------+----------+------------+------------+---------
 UA2296 | SFO | RIV | 744 | 16:10:00 | 2015-04-08 | 2015-04-08 | W

I'm on this flight tomorrow, flew it last month as well. It's only until tomorrow I think. Last time the bird did a LOS, IAH, SFO, LAX route. Tomorrow's LAX flight is coming in from CTU.

EDIT: Never mind, looks like the schedule got extended for another month as mduell pointed out.

Repositioning and basically so the international/speaker FAs can get back to their respective bases. Either LAX or IAH.

Thank you for posting this! There was actually a 747 doing SFO-HNL-SFO. It listed a 772 although the seat map and flight aware showed it was a 744. There is a redeye from SFO-ORD tonight (4/3) that is also a 744, listed as a 772 (view seat map/flight status). Would have loved to go on one of these positioning flights...

Nice, thinking about taking it to Los Angeles sometime this month to visit family. Was it pretty full & did it use the international terminal at SFO? Scheduled to use terminal G tomorrow.

On 3/29 my SFO-PEK flight was originally booked on a 744 coming in from HNL. But then they decided to give us the HKG-SFO bird that went MX after we boarded. Ultimately wound up flying on the FRA-SFO 744 that arrived the day before. No clue what they did with the 744 that came in from HNL.

Today's flight is leaving from G102. Last month's was leaving from 67 (probably because the inbound was a domestic flight) and was full up front. Today's flight is showing lots of open E+ so I can't imagine the flight is completely full.
