Even now, Xmas BF fares to LHR are $2400/2800/2900/3300 ex ewr/ord/iah/sfo
CDG BF is less that $2.2-2.9k September thru December ex EWR.
None are these are bad
You gotta keep tabs on FT almost daily because the deals were only bookable a couple of days and they certainly weren't promoted by UA.
I guess advertised "best BF/GF buys" can be considered nostalgia...

Hmmm... I somehow missed this thread when it was posted. I was historically a NW flyer but I have some fond UA memories...
- Going to DEN (Stapleton) to see my dad off on his trips to LA... on a 747. And being able to walk him to the gate (we can still do this in Australia!). I guess this would have been 1989 or so?
- My first rejected takeoff, on a 727 FAR-DEN, probably in 1990. I don't think Fargo gets any UA planes bigger than a CR2 now. Sigh. I remember we had to wait 15 or 20 minutes for the brakes to cool off before we attempted another takeoff.
- Getting 1P through the Star Alliance Status Match program in 2004. I had all these plans to use it and dump NW/KL but it never happened.
- More recently (until 2014), the twice daily thunder of the UA 744s as they climbed over my house on northbound departures SYD-SFO/-LAX. They made the windows rattle in my house and the kids would run out on the deck to watch them make that right banking turn to head out over the Pacific. It's just not the same with 772s. They're so... restrained.

mainline at MHT with 757 service to ORD
1K lounges .. esp the one at ORD. I always walk by there and fondly remember the small room
I remember the big 1K imprint on the ticket stock .. and it actually meant something
My first signed book and business card w/note from Capt. Flanagan :-:
e-500's and consistent upgrades

I still remember that view of the 757 parked at Gate 5 (which looked HUGE) next to the NW DC-9 parked at Gate 4.
I can't believe that was less than 10 years ago and the domestic (non-PS) 752's are almost all gone. MHT is now all UX.

While I didn't miss smoking on the plane, the residual tobacco/coffee smell is a distinctive combination that hits you when you board a flight. The smell reminds me of all the excitements and novelties of air travel when I was a kid.
May be the smell is reproducible by brewing Folger's and smoke cigars in confined space ...
That, and row 15 on 747.

A few....
I remember the DC-10's having some type of coat hanging system in the bulkheads. If memory serves me correct, it would mechanically lift whatever it was hanging into the ceiling (coats/suit bag/etc).
Also, when the 757's were first delivered they only had 2-3 rows of F and half of the cabin between doors 1 and 2 was Y. It was only a few rows but it was a nice little Y cabin.
