Hi Everyone, obviously I'm a lilttle late to the game here, but, as you can see, today we’ll officially be introducing the new United MileagePlus Club Card. I know there’s been speculation on this, and I’m sure there will be follow-up questions. To start, here are some key highlights of the United MileagePlus Club Card:

  • As the card name suggests, a full United Club membership is included. If you already have a United Club membership, once approved for the card, you’ll be refunded for any unused portion of your membership as long as the refund is $15 or more (the refund is applicable to annual and three year memberships)

  • There are some key benefits, too. Just like our Presidential Plus Card, the new Club Card is designed to enhance your total travel experience. Here’s a list of the benefits (details for each can be found here):
  • Earn 50% more miles on ALL purchases. This is a new benefit. Cardmembers will earn at least 50% more miles on all purchases with the new Club Card. Specifically, for each $1 spent, Cardmembers will earn 1.5 miles, and when purchasing United tickets, the miles jump to 2 miles for every $1 spent on tickets
  • Free first and second standard checked bags for the Cardmember and one companion
  • Premier Access travel services, including priority check-in, security, boarding and baggage handling
  • Book award tickets close to the departure date without a fee. We’ll waive the fee for booking award tickets 21 days or less prior to departure. This benefit is reserved for certain Cardmembers and certain Premier levels
  • Get complimentary upgrades on award tickets (applicable for Premier members). Cardmembers who are also Premier members will be eligible to receive their complimentary upgrade benefits (where available) even when traveling on an award ticket in economy class
  • No foreign transaction fees
  • Cardmembers will have access to last-seat award availability (applicable to general members)
  • As a Cardmember, miles don’t expire
  • Invitation to special Avis benefits and Hyatt Platinum Elite status
  • Inside Access from Chase. As a Cardmember, you will be delighted with opportunities to attend private, curated, once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Visit InsideAccess.com to learn about upcoming events
  • Access to the Chase’s Luxury Hotels and Resorts Collection special rates and benefits
  • Premier travel and purchase protection, including primary auto rental collision damage coverage
  • 24/7 Concierge Services

For those of you who already have a credit card with Chase, here’s some more information:

  • Already have a Mileage Plus Club Visa Card? You’ll find that the key differences are that the new Club Card has the added benefits of free checked bags, Premier Access, 50% mileage bonus on all purchases, award tickets close to departure date without a fee and complimentary upgrades on award tickets (applicable for Premier members where available). The new Club Card does not award Premier Qualifying Miles for purchases. More specific information about your current card and the new Club Card will arrive in the mail in late April

  • Already have the Presidential Plus Card? The key difference is that the Presidential Plus Card awards Flexible Premier Qualifying Miles for purchases whereas the new Club Card awards a 50% mileage bonus on all purchases. Both cards earn 2 miles for every $1 spent on United tickets. If you’re interested in changing over to the new Club Card, simply call the number on the back of your current card to discuss your options. While the Presidential Plus Card and its benefits will continue, we are not taking any additional applications for new Presidential Plus accounts

  • Already have another United card from Chase? If you currently have another United card from Chase and want to switch, call the number on the back of your current card to discuss your options

For a full list of details, and to apply for the new Club Card, please visit MileagePlusClub.com.

As always, please let us know your questions.

How long after applying for the card before I have UC access?
Chase / UA states (Offer Details)
Please allow 2 weeks after account open date for the United Club membership to activate
but it usually is quicker. At UCs, much of the time they will see it in under a week. *A lounges may require the physical card which may take 4-6 weeks. Those accepting the virtual card should work about the same as UCs.

Chase MP Club creditcard - Benefits, Q&A,...(none or maybe $100 AF discount for 2020)

I got in the MileagePlus Club card with the fee waived for the first year. Just got hit with the $395 fee charge going into my 2nd year. Any way to get this fee waived as well? I called in once, but the rep wasn't having any of it.

Also, the United lounge access card is mailed separately. Will this still work even after I cancel my card?

Thanks!

does the 1K $60 statement credit apply towards the club card annual fee?

also, does anyone know what the cost is for adding a spouse to the uc membership?

No. As I reported previously, my spouse's membership was deactivated around a month after cancelling the card. Her UA app stills displays a UC card valid until 1/31/15 though it stopped working in November.

All you can do is call in perhaps weekly to see if there are any retention offers. I've gotten 15k miles two years in a row now for renewing (they would have also given me a $150 statement credit). I also confirmed this last time, from multiple agents because it sounds suspect, that you can cancel your card up to 6 months after the renewal date and still receive a refund for the annual fee (still not sure I believe it, though).

I even got that in writing but got my dates screwed up and missed the cutoff by a week so Chase said it was null and void but "apparently" they would have honored the refund although I still find it suspect as well. Offered 15k miles if I spent $2k on the card in a month...ended up keeping it but didn't do the challenge and will make sure to cancel this go around.

Which Credit Card

I retired from my longtime employer and plan to start consulting and perhaps found a new startup. I need to start keeping track of my business expenses without administrative support. I think it would facilitate the process to get a separate business credit card. I am considering a United Club Card; it seems less expensive than renewing my club membership (especially considering the $60 fee credit for 1K flyers). I am also looking at dropping back to 1K from Global Services for 2015. A couple of questions:

still listed on UA's Upgrading award tickets toward the bottom.

Thanks, so it applies for the use of CPU's, but is not helpful for using RPU's further in advance.

Hi all, the search feature has failed me on my question, so I believe that this is the appropriate thread to post my question.

After a decade + of ongoing mid to high level elite status, come next week I'm going to be falling down to the ranks of gate lice. I've started to research some of the benefits, long ignored, offered by my UA credit cards.

One such benefit that I can't actually find documentation on is access to the 'XN' elite coach reward fare bucket. Apparently, according to a couple blogs I've read, the Explorer card offers non-elites access to this coveted expanded saver option. However, I cannot find anywhere if the legacy Presidential Plus card (or the current UA Club card) offers this perk as well. Does anyone have experience with this? I would think that if the Explorer card offers this kind of perk, then the higher-tier Club card(s) would, too - but then again, I've been surprised by UA & Chase in the past.

I'll certainly miss the 'IN' reward fare bucket. Maybe someday soon it will be back in my life. I do like one other perk that I just found out about from reading through this thread - the waiving of the close-in booking fee! I'm glad that I read about recent experiences, since it looks like the SOP now is being forced to call for a refund of the bogus fee vs. the previously proper coding of not charging it at all.

        Thanks,
        -CLG

one big difference is business card allows you to categorize charges, then has a year end summary of all charges by category, e.g. Dining, car expenses, computer related, etc, very helpful for tax prep
Business card also gives double miles for dining and gas as well as plane fares

The UA Chase CC's do not give expanded access to saver awards. What they do is give last seat availability at the standard award rate.

As of a few months ago they did give expanded saver awards. I snagged a one way from Hawaii back to the US. It is not an advertised perk so I expect it could disappear at any time if United rewrites a section of code.

I just tried a test book. I have no United status.

Awesome, thanks for the knowledge share. I'll just enjoy the 'perk' as long as it's around, since it sounds quite like the other award travel perk my friends & family have enjoyed (CPU's on X/XN tix) for the last few years.

Not sure how you got that. I just looked and it still says last seat at standard award level. Nothing about expanded saver award. Very strange. I have the club card and have not received any news about a change in the award benefit.
