First time I relied on CPU's in a long long time on a trip to BUF, but me AND my wife upgraded on 3/6 segments on cheap fares: YEG-DEN- BUF-ORD, and DEN-YEG last week.
The DEN-ORD and ORD-DEN segments I knew would be full of high fare 1K/GS and the ORD-BUF was booked full for months but still a happy customer

First upgrade this year as a silver (though haven’t flown much since Feb.). Upgraded on tomorrow evening’s IAH-CVG with a party of 3 (2 silvers and 1 no status) on the reservation. As of now, 7 booked in F, pretty sure they are all upgrades as F was empty until the weekend and the F seats filled matched the same amount of occupied E+seats going back to empty.

Unexpected CPU last night for my wife (no status) and me (Silver) IAD-DEN. The weather delays on the east coast caused a lot of misconnections (we made our connection because both flights were delayed) and SDCs. This resulted in our moving up the CPU list. The flight actually went out with one empty seat in FC.

Got CPUed at T-24 for last night's 9:30 PM ORD-RDU 737-800. I'm now 2/16 on upgrades this year as a Silver which is definitely in line with my expectations.

Hey FTers,
I have updated my United Upgrade spreadsheet to include this discussion on CPU upgrades (see the tab titled CPU Offers). I've got all offers mentioned from Jun 1 to this point. It's my hope to have all offers on this thread pushed to the spreadsheet by end of month. After that point, I'll be updating it less often (along with the ToD worksheet) as I will be working on my Masters in the UK. Let me know if there's any interest with Mods/FT Elites keeping this resource up to date.
Let me know your thoughts on the spreadsheet (i.e. am I missing any important data) and whether there would be any benefit in tracking the ones that got away (i.e. CPUs that never cleared)?
Safe Travels,
James

United cannot wait to upgrade me!
This got to be a first for me. As a lowly Gold member, I was confirmed 9 minutes before my T-48 CPU window! I guess that United really wanted to make my interview trip a little sweeter
BTW, has anyone seen an 'early' CPU before? Just curious

Dont know if it exists anymore, but at one point, there was a bug where folks, when space was available, were getting upgraded 24 hours before they were supposed to on west coast (going east) red eyes. Speculation was it has something to do with the system getting confused with dates and time zones when a red eye was leaving, say, SFO at 11:XX pm but it was already the next day in central time, which is the time zone used with a lot of UA stuff since it’s HQ.
This happened to me at least once, maybe twice.
Its been a while though. More recently, I find the upgrades getting done after the window - more like 5-20 minutes later rather than right on the window, or a couple of minutes after.

My wife does little business travel, but happened to fly enough last year to make Silver. Yesterday she had to make a MSP-ORD-MSP day trip. To my surprise she got upgraded on the 6:30am MSP-ORD leg. Of course, coming back on the 7:30pm ORD-MSP leg, she was 27th on the upgrade list after first was full

I did the BOS-LAX 6:30am flight last month, a 6hr 15 min flight and got upgraded at T-24. My son (no status) traveling with me got upgraded at T-1. The flight went out with 2 emptys in First.
The 9am flight was full a day in advance...

1K; Got cleared at exactly T-24 for EWR to IAH tomorrow at 5:05pm. Plane has the lie-flat seats so it should be nice. I saw about 5 other people were also upgraded. They were selling upgrades for $192.

A run of luck I didn't think possible for a Premier Silver these days
8/21 UA 389 BOS-IAD 0545-0710 737-900: Cleared at T-15
8/21 UA 1743 IAD-AUS 0935-1044 737-800: #3 for 0 seats at boarding. Boarded and sat in 21A. Right before departure time the gate agent came on and asked if I wanted to move to 2E. I have no idea what happened to the 2 people in front of me or one no show.
