As a Million Miler, you can share your status with someone (whichever status you have, including 1K):
Annual Companion Premier status
As a Million Miler you may invite your spouse or significant other to share your current Premier status. This membership is non-transferable and will automatically renew each year unless you let us know otherwise.

Also, some corporate accounts will receive a number of 1K and even GS memberships to dole out across employees as they desire--this is a reward for the amount of business they bring UA. Unfortunately, my employer used to get some of these for listing UA a "preferred airline" in their corporate travel engine, but they doled said status out to the people least in need of it (e.g. those who could qualify for GS on their own, or had use of the corporate jets).

1. A companion is defined as a spouse, significant other or individual who resides at same home address, based on MileagePlus profile information.

It's residential address, not mailing address, and it's rule #1 at https://www.united.com/web/en-US/con...fetime.aspx#tc

You can give Platinum, Gold, or Silver status to someone if you buy miles through UA's Recognition Miles program:
https://secure.unitedmileageplus.com...les/index.html
It's not cheap, and there are limits on the amount of miles you can transfer to a single person (so you can't give yourself all of the miles before they expire) -- so this is not a practical option for most.

- Buy 500,000 miles for $18,813 * 0.78 = $14,674
- Spend 450,000 miles on a star alliance RTW 1st class ticket (~$20,000)
- Use 50,000 miles to buy 1/3 of a $4-5000 USD J airfare or a $6-800 Y ticket
So basically get $20,000+ USD worth of flying for $14,674.
Or alternatively use 500,000 miles for:
- 4 RT J awards to europe (regular value $15,000 - $20,000 in P/Z)
- 3 RT F awards to europe (regular value $16,000 - 25,000 in A)
It is definitely possible to make it a good deal. The deal is 2.8 - 3cpm INCLUDING tax, not the best deal around, but the best deal I've seen for 1,000,000 miles!

Wow, there are some good deals there. For example, if I was going to buy RTW tickets with miles:
- Buy 500,000 miles for $18,813 * 0.78 = $14,674

No Thanks.
At ~3cpm, you're paying $1800 for a TATL Y award (60K miles) or $3450 for a J award (115K miles).
Then, you need to add tax and fees.
When it all adds up, you're spending a whole load of money up front, to get a ticket which doesn't earn miles, and doesn't earn PQM, and costs pretty much the same as one. I mean, I get a TATL return to LAX for about £2,300 with all taxes included. This is $3450 at an exchange rate of 1.5 and would still earn me 30K RDM as a 1K and around 18K PQM.
So, I can't see any good value in this.

2.8cpm INCLUDING tax is very hard to get for 1,000,000 miles. You can definitely get smaller amounts of miles for less with award accelerator. I think the RTW awards may be the best use.
