GF is differentiated because you have a much higher FA to pax ratio, and bathroom to pax ratio. This means that, unlike in J, you don't feel like you are on an assembly line, don't have to fight for bin space, and don't have to perfectly time trips to the lav. It's an overall much more relaxing and enjoyable experience. ...

It's time to give your soup line a rest. The only people that prioritize density over space and maintaining and uncompetitive J are people that don't pay for it.

3-4-3 nightmare or 3-3-3 in economy?
3-4-3 will be narrower than 747 and 787 correct?

Finally some honesty. I can't imagine anyone wanting more surly UA FAs than absolutely necessary. UA cannot compete with F among its own *A partners, let alone the super connectors of the Gulf.

It would stand to reason that UA would go for this same seating plan to maximize seats in economy. The seats should be comparable to the 747 and 787.
UA 747-400 has 31" pitch and 17" seat width in a 3-4-3 layout.
UA 787-8 has 32" pitch and 17.3" seat width in a 3-3-3 layout.

Okay, I actually went to the link and read the article and was a little underwhelmed.
10 aircraft is kind of a small order and is likely just a replacement/refresh move. This doesn't seem like a huge move towards the 773, esp. since UA has already ponied up for 35 A350s. These will likely replace the oldest/most-cycled 772s and that's probably about it, or act as a bridge for the long(er) transpac routes until the 350s and/or 777Xs show up.
Interestingly enough, UA has 14 AC from 1995-1996 still in service, but after that they went heavy into the 772-ER.
How many of these have you been on ?

Indeed. It's a bowl of soup, not a cup. There are only so many fools who will part with GF money on UA and time has run out on them.

Not sure if you fly UA much to remember, Glenn Tilton ordered the A350-1000 were said specifically to replace the 744, and to be delivered by 2019.
Not to mention, UA is not NW (DL), UA has more than 20 744, so the 10 77W ordered for now won't be able to replace the entire UA's 744 fleet !

I hope not. It seems they are toying with 10 across with 777s - and the 350 sounds like a nicer plane all round judging by the early trip reports.

UA 777 only have 9 across seating and that's a BIG plus!
for sure the new 777 will be the slaveships Air Canada ordered.
Lets hope UA waits for the A350. Or get Airbus to RUSH some new 350 to UA.
Reading the thread on cancelled and delayed flights to SYD, UA has got to get some more reliable planes FAST!

UA is late (as usual) to the 77W party. Swiss too is getting 77W's to replace the A340-300's . Should have been done years ago . But they're probably getting a good deal from Boeing.
